Best affordable Mesh extender
This wifi extender works best extending network to the deeper rooms and syncs easy with my existing tp-link router. The store salesman actually helped me in understanding with setup and good to know stuff. Totally recommend it!

Great Range
The range extender does exactly what it is supposed to. We previously had internet dropping out at one end of the house - this has improved measurably since we set up the range extender.

Works very well
This product has solved my issue with dead spots in the house. Walls are solid brick and would get weak WiFi towards the back of my house, as the modem is set up in the front room of the home. Now the entire house gets strong signal.

At a glance
The TP-LINK AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Range Extender is a practical upgrade for households or small offices that need better Wi-Fi in hard-to-reach rooms. It suits streaming, gaming and everyday multi-device use, with dual-band Wi-Fi 6, easy app setup and a Gigabit Ethernet port. Its main limitation is that it is better for moderate coverage improvement than demanding large or multi-storey properties.

- Online gaming
- Connecting smart TVs
- Extending home office coverage

Things to consider
While it offers faster wireless performance than many older extenders, premium mesh systems are typically a better choice for very large homes or users wanting more seamless whole-home roaming.
Large home suitability
Moderate - suitable for extending coverage to one or two weak-signal areas, but not the best fit for very large or complex layouts.
Ease of setup score
8/10 - app-based setup and extender design make installation straightforward for most users.
Multi-device compatibility
High - suitable for phones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, desktop computers and game consoles, with wired support via Gigabit Ethernet.
Speed improvement vs category average
8/10 - Wi-Fi 6 and AX1500-class performance make it faster than many older AC or N-class extenders.
Rental suitability
High - easy to install without permanent changes, making it a practical option for renters needing better room-to-room coverage.
Key benefits
- Wi-Fi 6 SUPPORT: Improves wireless performance for newer compatible devices and helps maintain smoother connections in busy households.
- Ax1500 speed class: Delivers combined wireless speeds up to 1.5Gbps for fast streaming, browsing and gaming.
- Dual-band wi-fi: Uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands to balance broader coverage with faster performance where signal conditions allow.
- Dual external antennas: Helps strengthen signal reach into rooms where your main router struggles to provide reliable coverage.
- Gigabit ethernet port: Lets you connect a smart TV, desktop PC or game console with a stable wired link.
- Tether app setup: Makes installation and everyday management simpler from a compatible mobile device.
- Multi-device support: Handles everyday internet use across several connected devices more effectively than older Wi-Fi standards.
- Wireless security options: Supports 64/128-bit WEP and WPA/WPA2-PSK2 security modes to help protect your network access.
Q: Does this extender replace my router or work with one I have?
A: No. RE505X extends an existing Wi-Fi network, so it needs a working router or access point to connect to first. It is designed to work with most routers, which suits homes fixing weak-signal areas rather than replacing the main network.
Q: Can I plug a TV or gaming console into the Ethernet port?
A: Yes. RE505X has a Gigabit Ethernet port for a wired connection to a smart TV, desktop PC or game console in a room with poor Wi-Fi. That can be a better fit than wireless alone for fixed devices that stay in one spot.
Q: Will it join a mesh network with a compatible TP-Link router?
A: Yes. RE505X supports EasyMesh with compatible routers, which can keep one network name across more of the home. Mesh behaviour still depends on the router it is paired with, so this extender does not add higher-end mesh controls by itself.
Q: Can the RE505X work as an access point through Ethernet?
A: Yes. RE505X includes AP Mode, so an Ethernet connection can be used to create a new Wi-Fi access point in a room that already has network cabling. That suits layouts where wireless repeating is not the best option.
Q: Is this good for brick walls or a shed out back?
A: It can improve coverage in hard-to-reach areas if it is placed where it still receives a usable signal from the main router. RE505X does not create speed on its own, so very thick brick walls or a distant shed may still need careful placement or another unit.
Q: Does Wi-Fi 6 matter if my current router is older?
A: Yes, with a limit. RE505X is designed to work with most routers, so it can extend an older network, but Wi-Fi 6 gains depend on both the router and the connected devices supporting Wi-Fi 6. Otherwise, it works as a dual-band extender.
