I have been using this range extender for the last couple of weeks, and it is working like a charm. My NBN box, and thus the modem/router, is in the garage, which is way too far from the living area where we spend most of our time. Because of the distance from the router and the possible attenuation, my internet speeds were not good, although I had a premium internet connection. But with this TP-Link Extender, it was so easy to set up and have my WiFi extended to the living area, and since then I have not experienced any internet issues.

Had issues with network drop outs in one area of house and since installing this has improved. Affordable and trusted brand. Will be purchasing another unit to improve network signal in another area of our house.

We have a brick single story house, and this wifi extender helps get coverage on the other side of the house where we didn’t have before. Easy to set up, great buy

it helped expand the wifi coverage as it had been an issue for our tv in the bed room from garage and the integration was seamless under one network - could not distinguish at all a separate wifi was not needed. best of all it was so easy to click and collect

Bought to extend the wifi from the TP-Link wifi 7 router (BE3600), when we upgraded our NBN to FTTP. The router is among the cheapest wifi 7 options and works with the Tether app to set up an easymesh system. Got this great extender to get faster wifi beyond the house to out buildings and garden. Which it does brilliantly, faster wifi by the shed than I used to get next to the modem before the upgrade. Brief delay in set up process because I didn't read the instructions and closed the app before the connection set ups were complete. Easy to sort. Hardest thing was picking the best available plug in the house that was close enough to the router but not in the way or at risk from water vapour or cooking. Definitely worth the money and time.

This extender works great. I initially set it up in the house and I got a green light on for the signal strength. I connected a 30 meter Ethernet cable to my Modem and repositioned the range extender in my garage. The signal light turned red and the light for 5G was green. My phone and tablet show 4 bars on the Wi-Fi symbol and they work well in the garage. I used the same Wi-Fi password that I have for the Modem when I set up the Extender and Network name TP-Link_Extender

The TP-Link RE305 is a dual-band Wi-Fi range extender made for households or small offices that need better coverage in weak-signal areas. It suits streaming, browsing, and connecting everyday devices, with easy placement and a wired port for one stable connection. Its main strength is affordable whole-home coverage improvement, but it is not as fast or as advanced as newer Wi-Fi 6 or mesh alternatives.
This extender is a solid value option for improving dead spots, but premium mesh systems and newer Wi-Fi 6 extenders can deliver faster speeds, better handling of many connected devices, and more seamless roaming.
Moderate - suitable for extending coverage into additional rooms or levels, but very large homes may benefit more from a mesh system
8/10 - straightforward extender setup and compact placement make it approachable for most households
Good - suited to common Wi-Fi devices including phones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, and one wired Ethernet device
6/10 - competitive for an AC1200 Wi-Fi 5 extender, but behind newer Wi-Fi 6 and premium mesh options
High - plug-in design and no permanent installation make it well suited to renters
A: No. TP-Link RE305 is designed to extend an existing Wi-Fi network, not replace the main router that connects to your modem or NBN service. It works best when placed where the router signal is still usable, not in a complete dead zone.
A: Not always. TP-Link RE305 extends coverage, but it does not offer the advanced roaming behaviour found in mesh systems. Some setups keep a similar network name, while devices may still stay on a weaker signal until they reconnect.
A: Yes. TP-Link RE305 has a single RJ45 port for one wired device such as a TV, game console or desktop PC. It is useful where Wi-Fi is patchy, but it does not add multiple Ethernet ports for several wired devices.
A: TP-Link RE305 can improve coverage in brick homes or on another floor if the extender still receives a usable signal from the router. It will not create a strong connection from nothing, so placement between the router and weak area matters.
A: No. Dual-band lets TP-Link RE305 use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, which gives more flexibility for older and newer devices. Actual speed still depends on the router, the band each device supports, and how strong the incoming signal is.
A: TP-Link RE305 supports 64/128-bit WEP and WPA/WPA2-PSK security. That covers many existing home networks, but the extender joins the standards your current router uses, so it will not add a newer security mode that the router itself lacks.
