Start using early!
This product is fine if you start using it early on. Unfortunately our kettle was too far gone when I came across it & ended up with a new one that has a Brita filter inside, the water where we live has very high calcium content. I'd recommend it to be used regularly.

At a glance
Sunbeam Liquid Descaler is a 250 mL cleaning solution for coffee makers and kettles affected by calcium and magnesium build-up from tap water. It suits households wanting simple, regular appliance maintenance and better heating performance without vinegar smell. Its strengths are broad compatibility, easy storage and practical repeat use. The main limitation is that it is a basic descaler, not a specialist cleaner for oils or deep internal servicing.
What it’s great for
- Regular descaling
- Coffee machine maintenance
- Kettle maintenance
- Removing mineral build-up
- Routine kitchen appliance care
Where it works best
- Home kitchens
- Apartments
- Family homes
- Small office kitchens
Who it’s for
- Coffee machine owners
- Kettle users
- Households with hard or mineral-rich tap water
- Everyday home users
Things to consider
This is a straightforward liquid descaler for mineral scale, so premium maintenance products may offer more specialised cleaning for coffee oils, milk residue or brand-specific machine care.
Machine compatibility
Suitable for all coffee makers and kettles
Barista suitability
6/10 - well suited to routine home descaling, but it is a general household descaler rather than a specialist barista maintenance product
Ease of use
8/10 - liquid format is straightforward for regular household descaling
Cleaning convenience
8/10 - compact 250 mL bottle is easy to store and practical for repeat maintenance cycles
Key benefits
- 250 mL BOTTLE: Compact size is easy to store in the kitchen while still supporting multiple descaling cycles.
- Mineral scale removal: Helps remove calcium and magnesium deposits that build up from normal tap water use.
- Coffee maker and kettle use: Designed for use across both coffee makers and kettles, making it a versatile household maintenance product.
- No vinegar odour: Offers a more pleasant descaling option for users who want to avoid the strong smell of vinegar-based cleaning.
- Restores heating performance: Removing mineral build-up can help your appliance heat more effectively by clearing deposits from heating surfaces.
- Regular maintenance support: Practical for ongoing appliance care to help reduce the impact of repeated scale accumulation.
- Appliance longevity support: Routine descaling can help prolong the life of your kettle or coffee maker by reducing scale-related strain.
- Ready-to-use liquid format: Simple liquid format makes it easy to measure and use as part of regular cleaning.
Q: Will this descaler work with non-Sunbeam coffee machines and kettles
A: Yes. Sunbeam Liquid Descaler is intended for coffee makers and kettles, including other brands with a normal descaling program. If an appliance maker specifies tablets only or warns against liquid descalers, follow that advice instead.
Q: Can it remove heavy limescale in one descaling cycle
A: It can remove mineral scale, but heavy or long-standing build-up may need more than one descaling cycle. Sunbeam Liquid Descaler is better for regular maintenance than for reversing severe neglect in a single clean.
Q: Is this better than using vinegar in a kettle
A: Sunbeam Liquid Descaler is formulated to remove scale without vinegar's strong odour. It is still a descaler rather than a general cleaner, so run the recommended rinse cycle before using the kettle or coffee maker again.
Q: Will it help a slow kettle or underheating coffee maker
A: Sunbeam Liquid Descaler can help when mineral scale is insulating the heating surface and reducing efficiency. If the appliance is slow because of an electrical fault, worn part or blocked brew path, descaling will not fix that problem.
Q: Does this also clean coffee oils or milk residue
A: No. Sunbeam Liquid Descaler is designed for mineral scale from tap water, not coffee oils or milk residue. If the machine needs both jobs done, use a separate cleaner for brew-path or milk-system cleaning.
