Amazing Sound & Noise Cancelling
The Sony WH-1000XM6 has exceeded my expectations. The sound quality is outstanding, with crisp vocals, rich bass, and excellent clarity. The noise cancelling is among the best I’ve experienced, blocking out background noise and making listening much more immersive. They’re also very comfortable to wear for long periods. Highly recommended!

At a glance
The Sony WH-1000XM6 is a premium pair of over-ear wireless headphones built for commuters, travellers and everyday listeners who want strong noise cancelling and long battery life. Key strengths include adaptive noise isolation, clear call performance and a portable folding design. A limitation is that listeners chasing specialist studio-style sound tuning may want more audiophile-focused headphones.

Things to consider
While it delivers premium convenience and noise cancelling, dedicated audiophile headphones or studio-focused models may offer a more specialised sound signature for critical listening.
Noise cancelling effectiveness
9/10 - adaptive multi-sensor noise cancelling is well suited to commuting, offices and travel.
All-day comfort score
8/10 - over-ear design and 254 g weight should suit extended listening for most users.
Commuter suitability
Excellent for trains, flights and daily travel thanks to strong noise cancelling, folding design and included hard case.
Audiophile vs casual fit
Best for premium everyday listening and travel rather than specialist critical listening.
Multi-device flexibility
8/10 - Bluetooth 5.3 and wireless pairing make it easy to use across compatible everyday devices.
Key benefits
- Active Noise Cancelling: Helps reduce background noise in offices, trains and busy streets for more focused listening.
- Up to 30 Hours Battery Life: Supports long listening sessions across workdays, flights or regular commuting on a single charge.
- Bluetooth 5.3: Delivers quick wireless pairing with compatible devices for everyday convenience.
- Omni Directional Microphone: Helps your voice come through more clearly during calls in busy environments.
- Head Tracking Audio: Adapts audio positioning for a more immersive listening experience.
- Folding Design: Packs down more easily for travel, commuting and compact storage.
- Hard Carry Case Included: Adds protection in a backpack or carry-on while on the move.
- Voice Assistant Support: Enables hands-free control for playback, calls and everyday tasks.
Q: Does the noise cancelling block all sound on planes and trains
A: No. Sony WH-1000XM6 reduces a lot of steady background noise such as engine and carriage rumble, but it does not create silence. Voices, announcements and other sudden sounds can still come through, especially in louder surroundings.
Q: Are these Sony headphones suitable for gym sessions or running
A: No. Sony WH-1000XM6 is an over-ear model and is not listed as a sports headphone, so it suits commuting, travel and desk use better than high-movement workouts. Sweat resistance is not a stated feature, which matters for training use.
Q: Are these best for wireless listening rather than a wired hi-fi setup
A: Yes. Sony WH-1000XM6 is better aligned to premium wireless everyday listening, travel and calls than a strictly wired, reference-style setup. Buyers chasing studio-neutral tuning or a specialist hi-fi approach may prefer dedicated audiophile headphones instead.
Q: How long does a full recharge take on the WH-1000XM6
A: Sony WH-1000XM6 takes 3.5 hours to recharge from flat. That suits overnight or workday charging, but it is not the quickest option if you often forget to charge before leaving and want a short top-up before heading out.
Q: Will 254g feel heavy during long work or travel days
A: Sony WH-1000XM6 weighs 254g, which keeps the design portable for an over-ear model. It is built for longer listening sessions, although comfort can still vary with clamp pressure, earcup heat and personal fit preference.
Q: Is the silver version the same as Sony's platinum silver colour
A: Yes. This model is sold as silver, with the supplier finish listed as Platinum Silver. That means the look is a light metallic silver tone rather than a darker grey, which helps if you are comparing Sony's finish name with the page colour label.
