Best quite portable air conditioner
I own three portable air conditioners from different brands. The Solt Portable Air Conditioner – 2.9KW is particularly quiet, quick and easy to cool down. It’s also on offer at the best price on The Good Guy. Check it out if you’re looking for a portable air conditioner.

Exceeded Expectations
I’m 100% happy with our Solt Portable Air Conditioner. Works very well in our spare bedroom even without the window ventilation kit. We have shutters on our windows so I simply slightly open the shutters so the hot air can escape. I turn it on 30 minutes before needing it so the room is cool. Yes it’s noisy but being cool & comfortable is the goal.

Things to consider
It is best suited to smaller spaces and, with a 52 dBA noise level and non-inverter design, it may feel noisier and less smooth in operation than premium fixed or inverter portable models.
Room size suitability
Best for small to medium rooms of 12 to 20 square metres
Portability rating
8/10 - portable format and multi directional wheels make it easy to reposition between rooms with suitable window venting
Noise level vs category average
6/10 - at 52 dBA, it is within a typical portable air conditioner range but not especially quiet
Energy efficiency score
5/10 - non-inverter design and no stated star rating suggest standard rather than standout energy performance
Ease of installation
8/10 - straightforward portable setup with included ventilation kit, though it still requires a suitable window for exhaust venting
Key benefits
- 2.9kW cooling capacity: Delivers solid cooling performance for small to medium rooms sized around 12 to 20 square metres.
- Portable design with multi directional wheels: Makes it easier to move the unit between suitable rooms instead of cooling only one fixed space.
- Included ventilation kit: Helps simplify initial setup so you can vent the unit correctly through a suitable window.
- Touch controls: Gives you a simple, modern way to switch modes and adjust settings quickly.
- Four operating modes: Fan, dry/dehumidifying, cool and auto modes give you flexibility for changing weather and comfort needs.
- Three fan speeds: Lets you balance stronger airflow with quieter operation depending on the room and time of day.
- Easy clean filter: Supports simpler maintenance and helps keep circulating air cleaner during regular use.
- Intelligent temperature sensor: Helps the unit respond more effectively to room conditions for steadier comfort.
Q: Will this portable air conditioner cool a large open-plan room?
A: No. Solt GGSAP2900W is sized for small to medium rooms from 12 to 20 square metres, so it is better suited to a bedroom, study or similar enclosed space. In a larger or open-plan area, cooling will be less focused and less effective.
Q: Does it need a window for venting in every room?
A: Yes. Solt GGSAP2900W needs a suitable window wherever you use it, because the hot exhaust air has to be vented out for proper cooling. The ventilation kit is included, but moving the unit between rooms only works if each room can be vented.
Q: Is 52 dB quiet enough for a bedroom or study?
A: Solt GGSAP2900W operates at 52dB, which is typical for a portable air conditioner rather than whisper quiet. It can suit a bedroom or home office, but the fan and compressor will still be noticeable in a very quiet room or while sleeping.
Q: Can it run as a dehumidifier without full cooling mode?
A: Yes. Solt GGSAP2900W has a Dry or dehumidifying mode, so it can reduce moisture without using Cool mode all the time. It also has a water level sensor, which is useful because moisture removal can require attention to collected water during use.
Q: Does the Solt 2.9kW portable air conditioner have Wi-Fi control?
A: No. Solt GGSAP2900W is not Wi-Fi enabled, so control is done on the unit itself using the touch controls. That suits buyers who want straightforward operation, but it does not support app control, remote access or smart-home routines.
Q: Can this Solt portable air conditioner heat as well?
A: No. Solt GGSAP2900W is a cooling-only portable air conditioner, with Fan, Dry, Cool and Auto programs. It can help with summer cooling and moisture reduction, but it does not include a heating mode for winter use.
