The product we purchased, a SMEG 900mm 'pull out' range hood replaced the same or similar range hood we purchased and installed in our kitchen circ 2003. The replacement is cheap and nasty. We bought SMEG original for the quality and performance. the fan was a tangential type that gave excellent exhaust performance in an open kitchen. We opted for a replacement SMEG for quality and that the original SMEG had reached its useful life, lights needed replacing and likely renovation cost would exceed the new cost. The replacement has a standard circular fan with what appears to have a lower air change performance. The switches are cheap plastic with very basic operations. The fan speed switch is difficult to find, its under the soffit of the pullout and caution required if changing speed when changing speed with the stove top gas flame in use. Over the near 20 years, the product has changed which was difficult to see on the photo on the website, but it did fit albeit requiring now some additional cabinetry. Overall disappointed with the product although this is not a criticism of Good Gyes other than the product was only available online. Buying online is a risk but buyer beware. I am not sure this purchase was value for money considering the quality of the original product.

Rangehood are inherently noisy and I expected for the price that it might have been quieter. Also made the mistake of venting through the roof. The vane flaps noisily on a windy day. Build quality is good and lighting is great. If you want quiet be prepared for a hefty price tag.

This 90 cm slideout rangehood is a discreet built-in option for households wanting a cleaner kitchen look without a bulky canopy hood. It is well suited to light to moderate everyday cooking, with simple slider controls, LED cooktop lighting and an easy-care aluminium filter. Its main limitation is that the 440 m3/h extraction output is modest compared with more powerful premium rangehoods for heavy frying or high-volume cooking.
With a maximum extraction rate of 440 m3/h, it is better suited to light or moderate cooking than heavy frying, wok cooking or larger open-plan kitchens that may benefit from stronger airflow.
8/10 - slideout integration saves visual space and the recirculating design suits compact kitchens well.
6/10 - 54 to 67 dBA is reasonable for a slideout rangehood, though not especially quiet compared with premium low-noise models.
8/10 - the dishwasher-safe aluminium grease filter helps reduce maintenance effort.
Best for light to moderate daily cooking
A: No. STH900X1 is better suited to simmering, boiling and general daily cooking than repeated high-smoke frying. Its 440 m3/hr extraction is more appropriate for light to moderate vapours than heavy searing sessions.
A: STH900X1 is listed as a recirculating rangehood. It also has a 150 mm vent outlet, so the cabinet space and the way the hood is being fitted still need to be planned carefully before installation.
A: Yes, in many 90 cm integrated hood spaces. STH900X1 is 898 mm wide, so it is designed for a 90 cm cabinet run, but the cabinet still needs enough internal room for the slideout body and fascia.
A: Smeg STH900X1 runs at 54 dBA on the lowest speed and 67 dBA at maximum. That is manageable for everyday use, but the highest setting will be clearly noticeable in an open-plan kitchen while you cook.
A: Yes. This model uses a telescopic slideout design, so the main body sits inside cabinetry and only the satin fascia remains visible. It suits kitchens where a built-in look matters more than having a full canopy on show.
