At a glance
This 60cm Schweigen undermount rangehood is a neat, concealed ventilation option for compact or minimalist kitchens. It suits households wanting strong 900m3/hr extraction, simple touch controls and easy-clean dishwasher-safe filters. LED lighting and a delay timer add everyday convenience. The main limitation is that a 60cm format may feel less suitable for larger cooktops or very heavy-duty cooking setups.

Things to consider
Its 60cm size is practical for many kitchens, but larger or more intensive cooking setups may prefer a wider rangehood for greater coverage.
Open plan kitchen suitability
8/10 - 900m3/hr extraction gives it solid odour and steam-clearing ability for many open layouts.
Noise level vs category
7/10 - positioned as a silent-style unit and well suited to buyers prioritising a quieter feel, though no exact noise figure is provided.
Renovation compatibility
9/10 - the undermount format and suitability for 300mm deep cabinetry make it an easy fit for streamlined kitchen updates.
Cooking frequency fit
8/10 - a good match for regular home cooking thanks to 900m3/hr extraction, five speeds and easy-clean filters.
Key benefits
- 900m3/hr extraction: Strong airflow helps clear steam and cooking odours quickly during everyday meal prep.
- Undermount design: Fits neatly into cabinetry for a clean, concealed look above the cooktop.
- 300mm cabinet depth fit: Designed to suit shallower cabinetry, making it practical for compact kitchen layouts.
- Five fan speeds: Gives you flexible airflow control for light simmering through to heavier frying.
- Touch controls: Simple front access makes daily operation quick and easy.
- Dishwasher-safe stainless steel mesh filters: Grease filters are easy to remove and clean for lower maintenance effort.
- Two 3W LED lights: Built-in cooktop lighting improves visibility while preparing food.
- 15 minute delay timer with auto shut off: Continues clearing lingering odours after cooking without needing manual switch-off.
Q: Is this Schweigen rangehood ducted only or can it recirculate?
A: No. UM1170-6ST is best suited to a ducted setup, not a recirculating one. That matters if your kitchen cannot vent outside, because the main advantage here is strong extraction through ducting rather than filtering air back into the room.
Q: Will it fit above a 60cm cooktop in shallow cabinetry?
A: Yes, in many 60cm layouts. The body is 598mm wide and 295mm deep, and it is designed for 300mm deep cabinetry. It suits a concealed look above a standard cooktop, but the cabinet still needs space for the duct run.
Q: Can this rangehood handle heavy frying and smoky cooking?
A: Yes. Schweigen UM1170-6ST has a 900m3/hr extraction capacity, which suits stronger steam, smoke and odours better than light-duty ventilation. Actual performance still depends on a well-planned duct path, especially in compact cabinetry.
Q: What does the 15 minute delay timer actually do after cooking?
A: It keeps the fan running for 15 minutes after cooking, then switches off automatically. That is useful if steam or food odours linger once the cooktop is off, but it is a short clear-out period rather than an all-evening timer.
Q: Are the filters hard to clean on the UM1170-6ST?
A: No. UM1170-6ST uses two stainless steel mesh filters that can go in the dishwasher, so grease clean-up is simpler than hand-washing fixed filters. They still need regular cleaning, especially if you cook with oil, to keep extraction working properly.
Q: How bright are the cooktop lights on this undermount rangehood?
A: This model uses two 3W LED lights to illuminate the cooktop area. They are practical for everyday stovetop cooking and checking food colour, but they are task lights, not a substitute for full kitchen lighting.
