Amazing product!
We were pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the heater. It warms up the whole house (more than 100 sqm) within minutes. It was very easy to set up, just had to connect the hose to the gas bayonet and electrical cord to the power point. Highly recommend.

At a glance
The Rinnai Avenger 25MJ NG is a portable unflued natural gas heater designed for medium to large living spaces and open-plan rooms. It suits households wanting strong heat output, timer convenience and easy repositioning between compatible rooms. Key strengths are its 6.3 kW performance, portability and 5.9 star efficiency rating. One limitation is that it needs a natural gas bayonet connection and won’t suit homes wanting a permanently flued setup.

- Family room warming
- Lounge room comfort
- Fast supplemental heating
- Everyday winter home heating
Where it works best

Things to consider
This model is best for homes with a compatible natural gas bayonet connection and suitable room use for an unflued heater; buyers wanting a permanently installed flued system or whole-home heating may prefer a more specialised alternative.
Room size suitability
Medium to large rooms; suitable for insulated spaces from about 63 to 97 m² depending on climate, with up to 85 m² a practical guide for cool conditions
Energy efficiency score
8.5/10 - strong efficiency for a portable gas heater, backed by a 5.9 star energy rating
Family safety rating
7/10 - includes a child safety lock, though the unflued design means it is best suited to appropriate room use and informed operation
Portability rating
8/10 - easy to reposition within the home, but movement is limited to rooms with a compatible natural gas bayonet connection
Noise level vs category
Low to moderate for the category, making it well suited to everyday living areas

- Dual Programmable Timers: Makes it easier to schedule heating for mornings and evenings without manual switching.
- Remote Control: Allows convenient temperature and operation adjustments from across the room.
- Variable Heat Settings: Helps you match heat output to changing weather and comfort needs.
- 5.9 Star Energy Rating: Offers strong gas heating efficiency for its class with a 5.9 star AS4553 rating.

- Large Room Coverage: Suitable for insulated spaces up to 85 m² in cool conditions, making it practical for bigger living zones.
Q: Is this Rinnai Avenger 25 heater for natural gas only?
A: Yes. This AV25 natural gas model is designed for connection to a natural gas bayonet point and is not the same as an LPG bottle heater. If LPG is needed, choose the matching Avenger LPG version rather than trying to convert this unit.
Q: What size room does the 25MJ output suit?
A: A 25MJ/h gas input is typically suited to a medium to large living area, roughly around 65 to 95 square metres in an insulated home. In open-plan or draughty rooms, effective coverage can feel smaller because more heat is lost.
Q: How much gas does the Rinnai Avenger 25 use, and what can it cost to run?
A: At full output, this heater uses 25MJ of natural gas per hour, which is about 0.7 cubic metres per hour. Using a typical gas tariff of 3 to 4 cents per MJ, running cost is roughly 75 cents to $1.00 per hour on maximum heat.
Q: Does an unflued convector heater need ventilation while running?
A: Yes. Because this is an unflued gas heater, it releases combustion products into the room, so fresh-air ventilation is required during use. It is better suited to ventilated living areas than bedrooms, bathrooms, or very small sealed rooms.
Q: Can this portable natural gas heater be moved between rooms?
A: Yes, but only if each room has a compatible natural gas bayonet connection available. It is portable in the sense that it can be repositioned around the home, but it cannot run freely from room to room without a gas connection point.
