Good gear to add to the system

I have 8 cameras already but don’t have this one that enables me talking to the person knocking. But so far i found the most useful thing for this is actually not the talking but it lets me see who is knocking then I decide if I should go and open the door or just ignore it to avoid sales pitch.

    Reolink Review

I purchased this Doorbell recommended by the salesperson, but after I set it up, to view videos, I needed to set them up in my photos on my iPhone. Not good, so I paid for this that I am not using and it’s in a cupboard, a waste of money. I can’t return it, because it’s not faulty. Not happy with Good Guys Sales staff.

    Love this doorbell!

The Reolink Wireless Battery Doorbell 2K with Chime is excellent. The 2K video quality is sharp and clear, even at night. The battery-powered wireless setup made installation quick and hassle-free. Motion alerts are fast and accurate, the included chime is loud and reliable, and the included 64GB micro SD card for local storage is a big plus with no subscription required. Overall, a high-quality, feature-packed doorbell that offers great value for money. Even works with my Alexa!

At a glance

The Reolink Wireless Battery Doorbell 2K with Chime is a flexible front-door security option for renters and homeowners who want clear video, local storage and easy wireless setup. Its standout strengths are the head-to-toe view, dual-band Wi-Fi and smart package detection. One limitation is that battery-powered use may need periodic recharging, unlike fully wired doorbells with continuous power.

Things to consider

It offers strong everyday security features, but premium doorbells may provide more advanced smart home ecosystem support or always-on wired operation without battery recharge management.

Smart home integration score

7/10 - solid app-based functionality with support resources for Google Home and Amazon Alexa, but broader ecosystem depth is not the main focus.

Rental suitability

High - battery-powered wireless setup is well suited to rentals because installation is simpler and may avoid permanent wiring changes.

Package delivery monitoring fit

9/10 - the head-to-toe viewing angle and package detection make it especially useful for monitoring parcels left at the door.

Night vision performance

7/10 - 2K imaging and HDR help maintain useful detail in challenging light, though premium models may deliver stronger specialised low-light performance.

Key benefits

  • 2k video: Captures sharper front-door footage so faces, visitors and delivered items are easier to identify.
  • Head-to-toe view: The 1:1 vertical view helps you see both people at the door and parcels left on the ground.
  • Wireless battery design: Makes installation easier in homes where running new doorbell wiring is inconvenient.
  • Dual-band wi-fi: Supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks for more flexible placement and router compatibility.
  • Smart detection: Person, vehicle and package detection can reduce nuisance alerts from less important motion.
  • Two-way audio: Lets you speak with visitors or delivery drivers without opening the door.
  • Local storage: Saves video locally with no mandatory monthly subscription for basic recording access.
  • Ip65 weatherproofing: Suits outdoor use in exposed or sheltered entry areas through typical weather conditions.

Q: Can this battery doorbell record continuously all day?

A: No. This battery doorbell is designed for motion-triggered recording rather than continuous all-day capture. If always-on recording matters, a wired doorbell or camera is usually the better fit because battery models need to conserve charge.

Q: Will existing doorbell wiring keep the battery topped up?

A: Yes. Reolink BWS2KDB can connect to 8-24VAC doorbell wiring to help keep its built-in battery topped up and reduce manual recharging. It is still a battery model, so wiring support is about maintenance, not true continuous recording.

Q: Does the Reolink doorbell need a monthly subscription to save video?

A: No. Reolink BWS2KDB supports local video storage, so recordings can be kept without an ongoing cloud subscription. That suits buyers who want recurring costs kept down, but storage management stays with the user rather than a paid cloud service.

Q: How often will the battery need charging in normal use?

A: Reolink BWS2KDB can last up to 300 days on a full charge, based on 5-minute recordings per day. More motion events, longer clips, colder weather and frequent live view use can shorten runtime, so recharge frequency depends on how busy the doorway is.

Q: Is the head-to-toe view good for watching delivered parcels?

A: Yes. The 1:1 head-to-toe view is designed to show more of the area directly below the doorbell, which helps when parcels are left on the ground. Package detection is included, but alert accuracy can still vary with placement and how busy the entryway is.

Q: Can it connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi?

A: Yes. Reolink BWS2KDB supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, which gives more flexibility with home router setups. Range and wall penetration are usually better on 2.4GHz, while 5GHz can suit shorter-range connections where congestion is lower.
