Great Value Security Solution
These cameras work great with either Apple or Android devices. There is a Windows and Mac desktop application as well if you prefer to use a PC. Take your time setting up the triggers and detection sensitivity and you will have a simple no fuss security solution. You can also set trigger times for when you are out and about, local storage on micro SD cards, cloud based solutions are available as a subscription service but are not mandatory or required. If you like to tinker, you can set up a home server and have the footage recorded there as well. I have also purchased solar panels for these units and now do not need to bother with charging every 3-6 months. Easy recommendation.

The camera is fantastic but I’m really disappointed with my recent experience at The Good Guys. I placed an order and was waiting to be contacted when it was ready for pick-up, but I received no communication at all. I only found out the product was already in store when I checked myself, which caused unnecessary delays and inconvenience. Clear and timely communication should be a basic part of customer service, and unfortunately this was not the case.

At a glance
The Reolink 2k Battery Security Camera is a flexible wire-free option for home monitoring indoors or outdoors, especially useful for renters or spots without easy power access. Its strengths are simple self-installation, app-based remote viewing, AI detection and two-way audio. A key limitation is that it relies on battery charging and supports local microSD storage rather than included cloud or larger built-in storage.

Things to consider
Compared with premium wired cameras, this model needs periodic battery recharging and has a lower frame rate, so it may be less ideal for continuous high-traffic monitoring.
Smart home integration score
6/10 - works with Google Assistant and the Reolink app, but does not support Amazon Alexa or Apple HomeKit
Night vision performance
7/10 - good for general home monitoring with night vision and built-in spotlights, though not positioned as a specialist long-range night camera
Outdoor weather suitability
8/10 - IP65 rating and operating temperature range of -10 to 55 °C make it well suited to typical outdoor home conditions
Pet & package monitoring fit
Good fit for monitoring pets, front-door activity and deliveries thanks to animal and person detection, app alerts and two-way audio
Installation ease
9/10 - battery-powered self-install design is easy to place and especially convenient for renters or locations without nearby power
Key benefits
- Wire-Free Battery Power: Rechargeable battery operation makes it easier to place the camera where power cables are difficult or not practical.
- AI Motion Detection: Detects people, vehicles and animals to help cut down on less relevant motion alerts.
- Night Vision with Spotlights: Helps capture clearer low-light footage around entrances, paths and outdoor areas after dark.
- Two-Way Audio: Lets you speak to visitors or respond to activity directly through the camera.
- Remote App Access: Enables live viewing and camera control from your smartphone when you're away from home.
- Indoor and Outdoor Use: IP65 weather resistance makes it suitable for sheltered outdoor placement as well as indoor monitoring.
- Local Storage Support: Supports up to 128 GB microSD storage for keeping footage on the device without needing a separate recorder.
- DIY-Friendly Setup: Self-install battery-powered design makes setup simpler for households wanting a straightforward installation.
Q: Does this camera need mains power to keep recording?
A: No. Reolink BWC2K06W runs on a rechargeable 5200mAh battery, so it suits spots where a power point is hard to reach. The trade-off is that it will need charging rather than staying permanently powered by a cable.
Q: Can you save footage locally on a microSD card?
A: Yes. Reolink BWC2K06W supports local recording on a microSD card with capacities up to 128GB, and the card is not included. That suits buyers who want on-camera storage without adding a separate recorder.
Q: Will this camera work with Google Assistant or Alexa?
A: It works with Google Assistant, but not with Amazon Alexa or Apple HomeKit. Reolink BWC2K06W is better suited to households happy to use the Reolink app as the main control point for viewing and settings.
Q: What happens to alerts if the camera goes offline?
A: Phone alerts, remote viewing and app control rely on the camera being connected over Wi-Fi. If the connection drops, Reolink BWC2K06W can appear offline in the app, so live access and app notifications will not be available until it reconnects.
Q: Is it suitable for outdoor use in rain and dust?
A: Yes. Reolink BWC2K06W has an IP65 rating for outdoor use and operates from -10 to 55 degrees Celsius. It suits exposed home entry points, but weather sealing does not make it a camera for submersion or hose-level water exposure.
Q: Is 3MP video clear enough for a front door?
A: Yes, for typical home entry monitoring. Reolink BWC2K06W records at 2304x1296, which gives more detail than basic HD, but clear identification still depends on mounting height, distance and whether the subject faces the camera.
Q: Can renters use this camera without hardwiring?
A: Yes. Reolink BWC2K06W is a battery powered, self-installation camera, so it suits properties where running fixed power cables is impractical. You will still need a suitable mounting position within Wi-Fi range for reliable app access.
