Handy portable radio - average sound
I love this little radio for the bathroom. It's super handy to put batteries in so you can keep it where ever is convenient to you. The USB plug in is also handy. The sound quality isn't great, but it's good enough for bathroom usage and I would still have bought it if I knew what it was like. Very happy with my purchase. I used this to replace a previous Pure Digital Radio I had, which lasted 12 years with daily usage, it's a great brand.

Great Radio but hard to start
This was pretty much the cheapest DAB+ radio I could get. I’m quite happy with it but I haven’t mastered how to turn on the radio in the middle of the night in the dark when I need it. Instead, I turn it on to a station before I go to sleep so it’s ready to listen to when I wake up in the early hours. The reception is remarkably good

Things to consider
This model focuses on simple portable listening, so it offers more modest sound output and fewer advanced features than larger premium radios with stereo speakers, internet radio or rechargeable battery systems.
Emergency suitability
Suitable as a basic backup radio thanks to battery power and DAB+/FM reception, but it is not a dedicated emergency model with torch, solar charging or hand-crank power.
Portability rating
9/10 - compact size, light build and AA battery operation make it easy to carry and place almost anywhere.
Ease of use score
9/10 - dedicated buttons and a simple 2.2 inch display make daily operation straightforward.
Battery endurance rating
6/10 - AA battery support is convenient, but no runtime figure or built-in rechargeable battery is specified.
Reception quality score
8/10 - DAB+, FM and a telescopic antenna support solid reception in well-covered areas.
Key benefits
- DAB+ and FM Radio: Lets you switch between digital and analogue stations for flexible everyday listening.
- Bluetooth Streaming: Plays music, podcasts and other audio directly from a compatible phone or tablet.
- Compact Portable Design: Small, lightweight build makes it easy to move between rooms or take outdoors.
- 2.2 Inch Monochrome LCD: Clear screen helps you check station information and settings at a glance.
- Alarm and Sleep Timer: Useful for bedside use, helping you wake up or fall asleep to audio.
- Dual Power Options: Can run on AA batteries or the supplied USB-A to DC cable for flexible use at home or away from a power point.
- Telescopic Antenna: Supports clearer DAB+ and FM reception when positioned well.
- 3.5 mm Headphone Output: Lets you listen privately without disturbing others.
Q: Does it have a built-in rechargeable battery for portable use
A: No. The Elan One runs on AA batteries or the supplied USB-A to DC cable, so battery use is replaceable rather than rechargeable. That suits occasional portable listening, but it is less convenient if you want regular cable-free use.
Q: Will the speaker fill a large room or outdoor area
A: No. Pure Elan One uses a 1.5W speaker with 1 x 1.75 inch full range driver, so it is better for close-range listening in a kitchen, bedroom or patio setting. It is not the right choice if you want louder, room-filling sound.
Q: Can Bluetooth play audio to the radio from my phone
A: Yes. Bluetooth lets the radio play music, podcasts and other audio streamed from a compatible phone or tablet. It is designed as a Bluetooth speaker function, so internet radio and apps still depend on the connected device.
Q: Can I plug headphones into the Pure Elan One
A: Yes. Pure Elan One has a 3.5mm headphone output for private listening without using the built-in speaker. It is an audio output only, so it does not add a wired music input from another device.
Q: How many station presets does this radio actually store
A: Pure Elan One stores 5 DAB+ presets and 5 FM presets, so favourite stations are quicker to recall without scanning each time. That is handy for a small bedside or kitchen radio, but the preset list is not large.
Q: Is the screen easy to read from across a room
A: No. The 2.2 inch monochrome LCD is aimed at near-field viewing and simple station or setting checks, not long-distance readability. It works best on a bedside table, benchtop or desk rather than as a room-across display.
