Panasonic portable radio
Radio is very lightweight and plastic, although it was cheap, I don't think it will be long lasting.

Great portable radio
The sound is great, tuning is really easy and doesn’t roll through the stations. It brings back memories listening to the Saturday races and the Sunday footy in the garage or the yard. Great value for money.

Great retro radio
Love the big knob so easy to tune to different channels. the speaker is loud and clear which is great. I’ve been using 4 AA batteries and haven’t had to change for almost a month now. Love the analog vibe this brings back memories of the 90s before internet we used to listen to radio. Sometimes when you’re surrounded by high tech you just want to go back to basic. 10/10. I’ll buy another one if it on sale again!

At a glance
The Panasonic RF-2400DGN-S is a simple portable AM/FM radio built for easy everyday listening at home, in the garage, or on camping trips. Its clear 10 cm speaker, large dial, tuning LED, and battery or AC power make it practical and beginner-friendly. It is especially useful as a backup radio during blackouts. The main limitation is that analogue tuning is less precise than digital radios with presets.

Things to consider
This model uses analogue tuning and does not include digital presets or a display, so station selection is less exact than on more advanced portable radios.
Emergency suitability
Good for blackout backup thanks to battery operation, simple controls, and access to AM/FM broadcasts
Portability rating
8/10 - lightweight 0.69 kg build and carry handle make it easy to move around or pack for trips
Ease of use score
9/10 - large dial, straightforward controls, and tuning LED make it simple for most users
Battery endurance rating
7/10 - 4 AA battery support is convenient, though runtime is not specified
Reception quality score
7/10 - AM/FM support and automatic frequency control help with stable reception, but analogue tuning is less precise than digital models

- AM/FM Radio: Lets you access both AM and FM broadcasts for broader station choice.
- Dual Power Options: Runs on 4 AA batteries or AC power for flexible use at home or away from mains electricity.
- Automatic Frequency Control: Helps the radio hold onto stations with less manual adjustment while tuning.
- Large Dial Scale: Makes it easier to see and adjust stations, especially for users who prefer simple analogue controls.
- Tuning LED: Provides a visual cue to help with station selection.
- Carry Handle and 0.69 kg Weight: Easy to move between rooms or take outdoors without much effort.
- Headphone Jack: Supports private listening when you do not want to disturb others.
Q: Can this radio save stations as presets?
A: No. Panasonic RF-2400DGN-S uses analogue tuning with a manual dial, so stations are selected by turning the tuner each time rather than storing presets. It suits simple AM/FM listening, but not one-touch favourite station recall.
Q: Is the Panasonic RF-2400DGN-S rechargeable or battery powered only?
A: No. Panasonic RF-2400DGN-S is not a rechargeable radio. It runs from AC power or 4 x AA batteries, so portable use relies on replaceable batteries rather than charging an internal battery pack through USB or a dock.
Q: Will it work well for weak or distant radio stations?
A: It is better suited to local AM and FM stations than fringe reception. Auto Frequency Control helps steady tuning, especially on AM, but this is still an analogue portable radio, so very weak or distant stations can be harder to lock in clearly.
Q: Does this portable radio have Bluetooth, USB or DAB+?
A: No. Panasonic RF-2400DGN-S is a basic AM/FM portable radio with analogue tuning and a headphone jack. It does not add Bluetooth streaming, USB playback or DAB+, so it is best if local radio listening is the main priority.
Q: Do I need to buy AA batteries separately for portable use?
A: Yes. Panasonic RF-2400DGN-S uses 4 x AA batteries for cordless listening, and the in-box listing names the radio only. If you want to use it away from AC power, plan on supplying the batteries separately before first use.
Q: Is the sound stereo or mono on this Panasonic radio?
A: It is mono. Panasonic RF-2400DGN-S uses a single 10cm full range speaker with 770mW total output, so sound comes from one speaker rather than left and right stereo channels. That suits talkback and casual listening more than room imaging.
