Nice N Cool
The system cools down our large living area within 45 mins. You get used to the noise of the unit after a while, as it becomes a hum in the background. I’d rather the noise than the heat!

Salesman was quick to offer discount to get it off the floor, all while saying “as loud as any” This thing is so loud it outperforms my sound system at full boar

At a glance
The Olimpia Splendid 5.2kW Portable Air Conditioner is a strong option for cooling mid to large rooms up to 35 m², especially in homes where a fixed system is not practical. It offers flexible portability, simple controls, 3 fan speeds and useful Sleep, Eco and timer modes. Its main limitation is noise, as 65 dBA is noticeable compared with quieter premium models.
What it’s great for
- Cooling mid to large rooms
- Flexible room-to-room use
- Rental-friendly air conditioning
- Seasonal home cooling
Where it works best
- Bedrooms
- Living rooms
- Open-plan areas
- Rental homes
Who it’s for
- Renters
- Homeowners without fixed AC
- Families
- Apartment dwellers
Things to consider
At 65 dBA, this unit can be more noticeable in quiet rooms than quieter premium portable or split-system alternatives.
Room size suitability
Up to 35 m²; best for mid to large bedrooms, living rooms and open-plan spaces
Portability rating
7/10 - easy to move between rooms, though units in this cooling class are typically bulkier than smaller portable models
Noise level vs category average
5/10 - at 65 dBA, it sits toward the louder end of the portable air conditioner category
Energy efficiency score
7/10 - inverter compressor and Eco mode may help manage power use, but no Australian star rating is provided
Ease of installation
6/10 - straightforward portable setup, but it still needs external venting through a window or door kit and drainage management
Key benefits
- 5.2 kW Cooling Capacity: Delivers strong cooling performance for rooms up to 35 m², making it suitable for mid to large spaces.
- Portable Design: Lets you move cooling where you need it most instead of being limited to one fixed room.
- 3 Fan Speeds: Gives you more control over airflow so you can choose stronger or gentler cooling.
- Sleep Mode: Helps create a more comfortable overnight setting for bedroom use.
- Eco Mode: Provides an alternative cooling setting that can help reduce unnecessary runtime compared with always using maximum output.
- 24-Hour Timer: Allows you to schedule start and stop times to better match your daily routine.
- Remote Control and Top Touch Panel: Makes operation easy whether you are across the room or adjusting settings directly on the unit.
- Inverter Compressor: Adjusts cooling output more smoothly for steadier temperature control than basic non-inverter designs.
Q: Does this portable air conditioner need to be vented outside to work?
A: Yes. The PROCOOL18E needs to vent hot air outside through a suitable window or door kit, otherwise cooling performance drops sharply. It is portable between rooms, but each room still needs a way to exhaust that hot air.
Q: How noisy is the Olimpia Splendid PROCOOL18E in a bedroom?
A: Olimpia Splendid PROCOOL18E is rated at 65 dBA, so the sound is noticeable rather than background-quiet. It can still suit bedroom use for buyers who prioritise cooling, but it may be intrusive in very quiet rooms or for light sleepers.
Q: Is this model suitable for a large living room or open-plan area?
A: Yes. PROCOOL18E is intended for rooms up to 35m2, which makes it a practical fit for many mid to large living rooms and some open-plan spaces. In a larger or less contained area, cooling will feel more local and less even across the room.
Q: Does the Olimpia Splendid PROCOOL18E also heat as well as cool?
A: No. PROCOOL18E is a portable air conditioner with a cooling capacity of 5.2kW, and no heating function is listed for this model. It suits buyers focused on summer cooling, not those wanting one unit for both hot and cold weather.
Q: Can I move the PROCOOL18E between rooms during the day?
A: Yes. The portable design makes it practical to use in different rooms as needed, rather than keeping it fixed in one spot. The trade-off is that every room needs access to outside venting, and drainage uses an attached 1500mm flexible pipe.
Q: Does it have Wi-Fi or app control for remote operation?
A: No. PROCOOL18E is operated from the included remote control or the buttons on the unit, and Wi-Fi is not built in. It suits buyers who want straightforward local control, but not those wanting app control or smart-home routines.
