At a glance
This 12kg LG top load washer is a practical choice for larger households wanting fewer loads, simple app control, and versatile everyday washing. AI wash support, steam, and specialised cycles help handle mixed fabric care with less guesswork. Its strong 5 star energy rating and 4 star WELS rating add appeal, but the 850 RPM spin speed is lower than some premium models for faster moisture removal.

Things to consider
Its 850 RPM maximum spin speed is lower than some premium top loaders, so clothes may come out a little wetter at the end of the cycle.
Large family suitability
9/10 - 12kg capacity and bulky-item programs make it well suited to larger households with frequent washing.
Quick wash performance score
7/10 - includes a Quick Wash program for lighter loads, though the 850 RPM spin speed is moderate rather than class-leading.
Laundry space fit
Best for homes with a dedicated laundry area and enough top-clearance for lid access.
Water efficiency vs category
8/10 - a 4 star WELS rating and 123 L per Eco Cotton cycle are solid results for a 12kg top load washer.
Key benefits
- 12kg Capacity: Handles larger loads and bulky items like bedding with fewer wash cycles each week.
- AI Direct Drive: Adapts wash motion to the load for more tailored fabric care across mixed laundry.
- Steam Cycle: Helps reduce common household allergens and refresh selected fabrics.
- LG ThinQ App Control: Lets you monitor and adjust wash cycles remotely from your smartphone.
- Eight Wash Programs: Gives flexibility for delicates, quick loads, duvet washing, allergy care, and tub cleaning.
- 5 Star Energy Rating: Uses an estimated 279 kWh per year, helping reduce running costs compared with less efficient models.
- 4 Star WELS Water Rating: Uses 123 L per Eco Cotton wash cycle, supporting better water efficiency for a large-capacity washer.
- Child Lock: Adds extra peace of mind in households with young children.
Q: Is 850RPM fast enough to leave clothes fairly dry?
A: LG WTX5-12W spins at 850RPM, which is adequate for everyday loads but not aimed at the driest possible finish. Clothes may come out wetter than from a faster-spin washer, so drying time can be longer for towels, jeans and bedding.
Q: Can I start and monitor washes from my phone?
A: Yes. LG WTX5-12W is Wi-Fi enabled and works with the LG ThinQ app for remote control and cycle monitoring. It suits homes where the laundry is separate from living areas, but phone control depends on home Wi-Fi and app setup.
Q: Does this washer need hot and cold tap connections?
A: Yes. LG WTX5-12W uses hot and cold water connections, so it is designed for laundries with both taps available. That matters if you want to use temperature-based settings, not just cold washes.
Q: How well does it handle quilts, doonas and pillows?
A: LG WTX5-12W is designed for bulky bedding, with a 12kg drum and a dedicated duvet program. It is better suited to one large bedding load with room to move than packing several heavy items in together.
Q: What does AI wash actually change on this top loader?
A: LG WTX5-12W uses AI Direct Drive to adjust wash motions to the load instead of relying on one fixed action. That gives more tailored movement for mixed everyday laundry, but it does not replace selecting the closest program for delicate or bulky items.
Q: Is this 12kg washer expensive to run each year?
A: LG WTX5-12W has a 5 star energy rating and estimated annual energy consumption of 279kWh. For a 12kg washer, a higher star rating generally means lower running costs than other 12kg washers with a lower rating.
Q: How water efficient is this large top load washer?
A: LG WTX5-12W has a 4 star WELS rating and uses 123 litres on the Eco Cotton setting. WELS reg. no. C45993. For a large-capacity top loader, that places it in a more efficient range, though actual use depends on the cycle and load size.
