Cute Instax Mini 12
Cute little camera. The function of actually taking a photo is a little clunky due to the position on the click button being at the front of the camera. The quality of the photos are not great, however it was used mainly in the evening so i think alot of light is needed to produce clearer photos. The novolty of the camera being an Instamatic was fit for purpose, adding to party theme, however the quality of the pictures are average.

Its strengths are simple automatic exposure, quick 5 second printing, and selfie-friendly close-up shooting with a built-in mirror. The included accessories add value for parties and keepsakes. Things to consider
This camera is built for simplicity rather than advanced control, so it is less flexible than premium digital cameras or higher-end instant models with more manual settings and creative shooting options.
Travel portability rating
8/10 - Compact instant camera design and AA battery power make it easy to carry for day trips and events.
Beginner friendliness score
9/10 - Automatic exposure, automatic flash control and simple point-and-shoot operation suit first-time camera users.
Low light performance score
5/10 - Automatic flash helps in dim conditions, but this instant camera is not designed for strong low-light performance like premium digital models.
Vlogging suitability
Low - Designed for instant still photos rather than video recording or creator-focused use.
Battery endurance rating
6/10 - AA batteries are convenient to swap, though they are less ideal for long high-volume shooting than rechargeable systems.
Key benefits
- Instant Mini Prints: Produces credit-card-sized printed photos you can share, display or gift straight away.
- Automatic Exposure: Adjusts brightness settings for you, making it easier to get usable shots without manual setup.
- Automatic Flash Control: Helps simplify shooting in mixed lighting so beginners can point and shoot with less guesswork.
- Close-up Mode: Improves framing for subjects around 30 to 50 cm away, which is handy for food, pets and detail shots.
- Built-in Selfie Mirror: Makes self-portraits easier to line up before you take the shot.
- 5 Second Printing: Delivers a photo print in about 5 seconds so moments feel immediate and fun.
- AA Battery Power: Uses two AA batteries for convenient replacement while travelling or at events.
- Bundle Accessories: Includes a camera case, film pack, acrylic photo frame and wooden photo bag tag for added gifting and display value.
Q: Does the Instax Mini 12 let you adjust exposure manually?
A: No. The Instax Mini 12 uses automatic exposure, so shutter speed and flash output adjust to the ambient light for you. It is designed for simple point-and-shoot use rather than manual control over exposure settings.
Q: How close can the Instax Mini 12 focus in Close-up mode?
A: For close-ups, the Mini 12 is designed for subjects about 30 to 50 cm away. In Close-up mode, the viewfinder framing is corrected so the printed subject sits closer to the centre, which helps with food, pets and small objects.
Q: Is the Instax Mini 12 a good choice for selfies?
A: Yes. The Mini 12 has a built-in selfie mirror, and Close-up mode also works for self-portraits at around 30 to 50 cm. The flash adjusts automatically in this mode, helping avoid the washed-out look some instant cameras can produce.
Q: What film does the Instax Mini 12 use, and how big are the prints?
A: It uses Instax Mini instant film, which produces credit-card-sized prints measuring about 86 x 54 mm, with an image area around 62 x 46 mm. It does not use Instax Square or Instax Wide film, so film format matters when buying refills.
Q: Can you turn the flash off on the Instax Mini 12?
A: No. The Instax Mini 12 is designed to use flash automatically when shooting, which suits indoor snaps and quick portraits. If a no-flash option or more manual control matters, this model may feel limiting.
Q: Does the Instax Mini 12 have a rechargeable battery?
A: No. The Instax Mini 12 runs on 2 AA batteries rather than a built-in rechargeable battery. That can be handy for travel because spares are easy to carry, but it also means ongoing battery replacement instead of USB charging.
