Light to handle, clear and comfotable screen which is perfect for many hours of study.
Fairly good product, although I prefer the on off button in the left hand corner on the keyboard and same as the icon in the on off section in the bottom left corner of the screen like my old laptop.

Terrible service
Product is excellent however; it was out of stock when I ordered it (online) which wasn't revealed until after placing the order. When I tried to enquire as to the status, there is nobody available to speak with which is extremely frustrating. The online 'bot' adds to the frustration. I was left guessing when I'd receive the laptop - it was several weeks. I will not deal with this company again.

Very Happy with this purchase
My new HP Laptop is just what I wanted, its so much faster and accurate for my needs. I'm still learning every day the new Windows 11 system. It was a very good price and I could not complain about The Good Guys service. I was kept informed of my back order and notified when it arrived. It was very easy to install in my office.

Things to consider
Compared with premium laptops, it is less suited to intensive gaming, advanced content creation and users who want a lighter, more travel-focused design.
Student suitability
Good for general study, research, assignments and online classes; best for students who prioritise value over ultra-light portability.
Gaming suitability score
3/10 - suitable for very light or casual games, but not designed for modern AAA gaming or high-frame-rate play.
Portability rating
6/10 - portable enough for commuting between home, campus and office, though less convenient than smaller premium ultrabooks.
Battery endurance rating
6/10 - generally fine for mixed daily use, but heavy workloads or extended days away from power may require carrying the charger.
Pro vs casual fit
Best for casual to mainstream productivity users rather than specialist professional workloads.
Key benefits
- 15.6-inch display: Gives you a larger viewing area that is comfortable for spreadsheets, study tasks and split-screen work.
- Everyday performance: Handles common tasks like email, documents, web browsing and video calls smoothly for most users.
- Windows laptop format: Offers familiar software compatibility for school, work and general home use.
- Full-size notebook layout: Provides a practical setup for longer typing sessions and routine productivity.
- Portable 15.6-inch design: Easier to move between rooms, classes or the office than a desktop PC while still giving you a roomy screen.
- Built-in webcam and microphone: Supports online classes, meetings and everyday video calling without extra accessories.
- Good value focus: Suits buyers who want a capable general-purpose laptop without paying for premium design extras.
- Balanced home and study use: Works well as a single household laptop for assignments, admin tasks, streaming and web use.
Q: Is the Intel Core i5 and 8GB RAM in this HP 15.6 inch laptop enough for everyday work and study?
A: Yes. An Intel Core i5 with 8GB RAM is well suited to web browsing, Microsoft 365, video calls, streaming and standard study tasks. It is less suited to heavier editing, large spreadsheets with many apps open, or modern AAA gaming.
Q: Will the 256GB SSD be enough if this laptop is your main computer?
A: It can be, but 256GB is best for lighter local storage needs. After Windows, updates and core apps, typical usable space is closer to 180GB to 200GB, so large photo libraries, offline videos and big game installs will fill it faster.
Q: What does a 15.6 inch screen size mean for portability and everyday use?
A: A 15.6 inch laptop gives more viewing space for documents, browsing and split-screen work than a smaller 13 or 14 inch model. The trade-off is a larger footprint in a bag and less convenience if you travel often or commute daily.
Q: Is this HP 15.6 inch i5 8GB 256GB laptop suitable for gaming?
A: No, not as a gaming-first laptop. This configuration is better matched to everyday computing and lighter titles, while newer high-end games usually need a stronger graphics solution, more RAM and more storage than 8GB and 256GB provide.
Q: How can you confirm this is the right HP laptop configuration before buying?
A: Match the three key specs listed on the page, which are a 15.6 inch display, Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB memory and 256GB SSD storage. That matters because similar HP models can look alike but differ in speed, storage and intended use.
