Product Overview

The Haier 90cm 500 Series Induction Cooktop 5 Zone heats five pots or pans at once for larger meal prep.

A 90cm width and 5 zone layout suit busy kitchens where boiling, frying and simmering often happen together. Haier uses touch controls with 9+ heat settings, so you can adjust each zone with more precision during weeknight cooking.

Induction heats cookware directly, while the centre zone reaches up to 3000W with Power Boost for faster high-heat tasks. The pause function and timer help when you need to step away mid-cook. Safety features include a child lock, overheating alert, over spill alert and surface hot indicators.

Model HCI905TB4 in black comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty.

    Disappointing Performance and Very Noisy

I’m quite disappointed with the cooktop. While it looks good and is easy to clean, the actual performance has not met expectations. The heating is inconsistent, especially when using multiple pots at the same time. Some zones struggle to maintain heat, making it difficult to cook efficiently when more than two burners are in use. This is very frustrating for a 90cm induction cooktop that should comfortably handle multiple dishes. Another major issue is the noise. The cooling fans are extremely loud, particularly when several zones are operating. The noise continues even after cooking, which is disruptive and not something I expected from a modern induction cooktop. Overall, for the price, I expected much better performance and quieter operation. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this cooktop if you regularly cook with multiple pots or value a quieter kitchen environment.

Don’t buy it, you will regret

First of all, I purchased this cooktop online as a Click & Collect order, but I never received any communication from The Good Guys. I had to visit the store in person to follow up. I am also very disappointed with this cooktop for the following reasons: • The burners do not heat evenly; at the same setting, they may become extremely hot or not hot enough at all. • Deep scratches appeared after only a few uses, despite very careful handling. • The burner cooling fans are extremely loud and quite disturbing during operation. • The electrical installation was very expensive, as changes to the existing electrical system were required. • The cooktop struggles when multiple pots are used at the same time, causing inconsistent performance and poor cooking results.

At a glance

This 90cm Haier induction cooktop is a practical mid-range option for families and busy home cooks who often prepare several dishes at once. Its five zones, responsive touch controls and Power Boost on the centre zone make everyday cooking easier and faster. Safety features are strong, and the surface is easy to wipe clean. The main limitation is that it lacks the extra flexibility of premium flexi-zone models.

Things to consider

It offers strong everyday performance, but it does not include a flexi zone or more advanced zone-linking features found on some premium induction cooktops.

Family cooking suitability

High - the 90cm width and five-zone layout are well suited to households cooking multiple dishes at the same time.

Energy efficiency score

8.5/10 - induction heats cookware directly and responds quickly, which helps reduce wasted heat compared with many traditional electric cooktops.

Cookware compatibility assessment

Requires induction-compatible cookware with a suitable magnetic base, so some existing pots and pans may need replacing.

Safety rating

9/10 - child lock, overheating alert, over spill alert and hot surface indicators provide a strong set of everyday safety features.

Ease of cleaning

9/10 - the black glass surface is easy to wipe down, and the area around cookware stays cooler to help avoid baked-on spills.

Key benefits

  • Five Cooking Zones: Lets you heat up to five pots or pans at once, making it well suited to larger meals and side-by-side cooking tasks.
  • 90cm Cooktop Width: Provides a spacious layout that gives larger cookware and multiple dishes more room during busy meal prep.
  • 9+ Heat Settings: Gives you finer control for tasks like boiling, frying and simmering without relying on broad temperature steps.
  • Centre Zone Power Boost up to 3000W: Delivers extra power for faster high-heat cooking such as boiling water or searing.
  • Touch Controls: Makes adjusting each zone simple and keeps the surface streamlined for a clean modern look.
  • Pause Function: Helps when you need to step away briefly and want to interrupt cooking without fully resetting your settings.
  • Built-In Timer: Supports better timing for different dishes and helps reduce the risk of overcooking.
  • Cool-to-Touch Surround and Safety Alerts: Child lock, overheating alert, over spill alert and hot surface indicators add reassurance in homes with children or frequent cooking.

Q: Will my current pots and pans work on this cooktop?

A: No, only induction-compatible magnetic cookware will heat on the HCI905TB4. If a pot or pan is not magnetic, the cooktop will not detect it or heat it, so some existing cookware may need replacing.

Q: Can two cooking zones be linked for larger cookware?

A: No, the HCI905TB4 has five separate cooking zones and does not offer Flexi Zone pairing. Large pans still need to sit within a single zone, so this model is less suited to oversized griddles or roasting dishes.

Q: Does it use separate sliders for each cooking zone?

A: No, Haier HCI905TB4 uses a single touch control layout rather than multi-slider controls. That keeps the surface simple to wipe clean, but changing heat on different zones can take extra taps during busy cooking.

Q: Will a 90cm cooktop fit my existing benchtop cut-out?

A: Maybe. Haier HCI905TB4 measures 900mm wide, 520mm deep and 60mm high, so the benchtop cut-out and cabinet below need to suit those overall dimensions. Discuss clearance, wiring access and cut-out size with your electrician before ordering.

Q: Is the surface still hot after you remove a pan?

A: Haier HCI905TB4 stays cool-to-touch until compatible cookware is placed on the zone, because the pan is heated directly. The glass around the cookware is easier to wipe than radiant electric, but the area under a hot pan can still stay warm after use.

Q: Why can an induction cooktop sound noisy while cooking?

A: Induction cooktops can make some operating noise from cookware vibration and cooling fans, especially when several zones are running. Haier HCI905TB4 is not marketed as a low-noise model, so some fan noise during and after cooking is normal.
