Does what it needs to -a basic vacuum of light dirt. Would be better if it came with soft brush attachment.

Very pleased!!
As my mum also has one, she recommended it. My vacuum works very well at home. I like how I don't have to drag a cord behind me. It was a great choice!

At a glance
The Dyson V8 Advanced is a lightweight cordless stick vacuum suited to homes that want easy day-to-day cleaning on hard floors, carpets and upholstery. Its strengths are strong suction, good filtration, hair de-tangling and simple handheld conversion. It is especially handy for quick whole-home touch-ups. The main limitation is that Max mode only runs for up to 5 minutes, so it is less suited to longer heavy-duty deep cleans.

Things to consider
Compared with newer premium cordless vacuums, this model has a shorter high-power run time of up to 5 minutes in Max mode and may be less suitable for large homes needing extended deep cleaning.
Pet hair performance score
7/10 - De-tangling cleaner head helps with hair pick-up, but it is not specifically positioned as a pet-focused model.
Carpet vs hard floor suitability
Best for mixed homes, with especially strong suitability for hard floors and light-to-moderate carpet cleaning.
Portability rating
9/10 - At 2.5 kg with cordless operation and handheld conversion, it is highly portable around the home.
Noise level vs category average
About average for a cordless stick vacuum in this class.
Allergy friendliness
8/10 - Strong filtration performance captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, which is helpful for dust-sensitive households.
Key benefits
- Dyson digital motor V8: Spins up to 107,000 rpm to deliver strong suction for everyday cleaning across multiple surfaces.
- Up to 40-minute run time: Gives you cordless cleaning flexibility for regular household touch-ups in Powerful mode.
- Whole-machine filtration: Captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns to help reduce fine dust escaping back into the air.
- Motorbar cleaner head: De-tangling vanes automatically clear wrapped hair from the brush bar while you clean.
- Lightweight 2.5 kg design: Easier to carry, lift and manoeuvre for stairs, high areas and quick room-to-room cleaning.
- Transforms to handheld: Switches from stick vacuum to handheld in one click for furniture, car interiors and tight spaces.
- Hygienic bin emptying: Lever-release system lets you empty the 0.54 L bin with less contact with dirt and dust.
- Wall-mounted storage: Docking on the wall helps keep the vacuum stored neatly and ready to charge between cleans.
Q: Is the Dyson V8 Advanced better for whole-home cleaning or smaller spaces?
A: Dyson V8 Advanced is better suited to small homes or quick top-up cleans. It runs for up to 40 minutes in Powerful mode with non-motorised tools, but Max mode is for short bursts and runs for up to 5 minutes.
Q: Does the 40-minute battery life apply when using the main floor head?
A: No. The quoted runtime is up to 40 minutes in Powerful mode with non-motorised tools. Using the Motorbar cleaner head or switching to Max mode will reduce runtime, so floor cleaning time is shorter than the headline figure.
Q: Is the Dyson V8 Advanced a good choice for picking up pet hair?
A: Yes. The Motorbar cleaner head uses de-tangling vanes that automatically clear wrapped hair from the brush bar as you clean. That makes it a practical pick for homes with pets or long hair, especially on mixed floor types.
Q: Can the Dyson V8 Advanced be used easily on stairs, shelves and in the car?
A: Yes. Dyson V8 Advanced weighs 2.5kg and converts to a handheld in one click, so it is easier to use on stairs, shelves and inside the car than a heavier full-size vacuum. The lighter build also helps with above-floor cleaning.
Q: How much suction does the Dyson V8 Advanced have in real use?
A: Dyson V8 Advanced has 115 air watts of suction power in its most powerful mode. In practice, that gives stronger pickup for stubborn debris when needed, but the trade-off is shorter runtime than the longer everyday cleaning mode.
Q: Does the Dyson V8 Advanced help trap fine dust inside the vacuum?
A: Yes. Dyson V8 Advanced has whole-machine filtration that captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. That result is based on ASTM F1977 testing in the highest setting at the inlet, so it describes the filtration system itself.
