The OG vacuums > stick vacuums
Much better than the stick when comparing the lower price point of the stick vacuums. Suction is amazing and very easy to set up. Down side is that it’s not as easy to take out and do a quick clean and there isn’t a hard floor surface attachment.

Purchase of Dyson Vacuum
Dyson works really well with heavy dust and larger particles. Anthony at The Good Guys Rockingham was very helpful with his advice and guidance with what product would suit best.

Dyson v8 stick vac review
Good product convenient for vacuuming around corners and under items such as chairs. Battery lasts about 30 mins on the normal mode and 10 minuets on the super mode. It is convenient but the battery doesn’t last long.

At a glance
The Dyson Big Ball Bagless Barrel Vacuum is a premium barrel vacuum for homes needing strong all-floor cleaning and easier handling around furniture. It suits users who want hygienic dirt disposal, a large bin and better reach for awkward areas. Its self-righting design adds convenience if it tips over. One limitation is that it may feel less compact and lightweight than smaller, more basic barrel vacuums.
What it’s great for
- Whole-home cleaning
- Mixed floor cleaning
- Dust and debris pickup
- Reaching awkward areas
- Low-contact bin emptying
Where it works best
- Family homes
- Apartments with mixed flooring
- Multi-room homes
- Living areas
- Hard-to-reach spaces
Who it’s for
- Households with mixed floors
- Busy families
- Allergy-conscious users
- Homeowners wanting premium cleaning convenience
Things to consider
While it offers premium convenience features, it may be less compact and nimble to store or carry than smaller barrel vacuums designed specifically for tight spaces.
Pet hair performance score
7/10 - strong suction should handle everyday pet hair well, but no dedicated pet tool is specified.
Large home suitability
8/10 - well suited to larger cleans thanks to the large bin and 125 cm wand reach.
Carpet vs hard floor fit
Balanced all-floor performance for both carpet and hard floors
Noise level rating
5/10 - no low-noise claim is provided, so expect typical barrel vacuum sound levels.
Portability rating
6/10 - self-righting helps usability, but the large barrel format may feel less portable than smaller models.
Key benefits
- Self-righting design: Returns upright if toppled, helping reduce interruptions while cleaning.
- 2 Tier Radial cyclones: Delivers strong suction for effective pickup across different floor types.
- Bagless design: Eliminates the need to buy and replace vacuum bags.
- Hygienic dirt ejection: Lets you empty the bin with a button push to reduce contact with dust and debris.
- Large capacity bin: Holds more dirt and debris for fewer emptying stops during bigger cleans.
- Extended wand reach: Reaches up to 125 cm to help clean awkward or high areas more easily.
- 360° articulated handle: Rotates in three directions for greater control around furniture and corners.
- All floor type suitability: Designed to clean across carpet and hard floors without needing a separate vacuum.
Q: Is this Dyson Big Ball good for homes with pet hair?
A: Yes, for general pet hair around the home. Dyson Big Ball Bagless Barrel Vacuum has powerful suction and works across carpet and hard floors, but it is not a pet-focused model and does not include dedicated pet-specific cleaning tools.
Q: Can the wand reach stairs, ceilings and other awkward spots?
A: Yes. The wand extends to 1250mm, so it is better suited to stairs, ceilings and tight corners than a short fixed tube. The handle also rotates with 360° articulation, which helps guide the wand around furniture and other obstacles.
Q: What happens if the barrel vacuum tips over while cleaning?
A: It self-rights when toppled, so the vacuum returns upright instead of staying on its side. That makes stop-start cleaning less fiddly when you are moving around furniture or changing direction, though the barrel still needs space to roll behind you.
Q: Do I need to buy replacement vacuum bags for this model?
A: No. Dyson Big Ball Bagless Barrel Vacuum is bagless, so dirt goes into the bin instead of disposable bags. The bin ejects dust with a button press for more hygienic emptying, but it still needs to be emptied manually when full.
Q: Will it work across carpet and hard floors in one clean?
A: Yes. Dyson Big Ball Bagless Barrel Vacuum is designed for all floor types, so it suits homes with a mix of carpet and hard flooring. It is built for whole-home cleaning rather than a specialised setup for one surface type only.
