Incredibly powerful!
We have a Dyson Stick Vacuum and decided we wanted to upgrade our old Ball vacuum also. Best decision as this vacuum pulled so much dirt from our carpets and lounge and our hard floors were left spotless. The attachments are perfect for all the tricky spots! The house felt cleaner immediately!

Awesome Ball
I purchased this product following extensive research on the web, I have not been disappointed, the machine is light in weight, very easy to maneuver and the suction is amazing. I have a very tidy house, but the dust it collected on the first vacuum was incredible. The bagless feature is a bonus, a little tricky to open to empty, otherwise I would definitely recommend this product. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Great vacuum Dyson big ball bagless
Works so good I vacuumed with my old vacuum and then run the Dyson over the same carpet and I was shocked at how much more came out of the carpet. Only thing is the clip that holds the lid being a small piece of plastic may not hold up

At a glance
The Dyson Big Ball Absolute is a premium bagless barrel vacuum suited to homes needing strong all-floor cleaning and better reach for stairs, upholstery and awkward spaces. Its self-righting design, hygienic bin emptying and included tool set make it practical for everyday use. It is best for buyers who want convenience and manoeuvrability, but it is not a specialist choice for homes focused mainly on pet hair removal.
What it’s great for
- Whole-home cleaning
- Mixed floor cleaning
- Upholstery cleaning
- Stair cleaning
- Hard-to-reach areas
Where it works best
- Family homes
- Apartments
- Multi-surface homes
- Homes with stairs
Who it’s for
- Households wanting a premium vacuum
- Allergy-conscious cleaners
- Homeowners with mixed flooring
- Buyers wanting low-maintenance bagless cleaning
Things to consider
It is versatile across all floor types, but homes with heavy pet shedding may prefer a more pet-focused vacuum with stronger hair pickup emphasis.
Pet hair performance score
6/10 - Includes a tangle-free turbine tool, but it is not positioned as a pet-focused model.
Large home suitability
7/10 - Good reach, large 1.5 L bin and versatile tools suit broader cleaning, though a larger-capacity model may better suit very large homes.
Carpet vs hard floor fit
Balanced for both carpet and hard floors
Noise level rating
6/10 - No specific low-noise claim is provided, so expect typical barrel vacuum noise.
Portability rating
8/10 - Barrel format, self-righting design and articulated wand improve handling around the home.
Key benefits
- Self-righting design: The vacuum turns itself upright if toppled, reducing interruptions while cleaning.
- 2 Tier Radial cyclones: Helps deliver strong suction for everyday dirt and dust pickup across multiple floor types.
- Bagless 1.5 L bin: The large-capacity bin captures more debris before you need to empty it.
- Hygienic dirt ejection: Push-button emptying helps reduce contact with dust and debris.
- Long reach wand: The wand extends up to 125 cm to help clean ceilings, corners and awkward spots more easily.
- 360° wand articulation: The handle rotates in three directions for better control around furniture and tight spaces.
- All-floor compatibility: Designed to clean carpets, hard floors and upholstery with one vacuum.
- Included specialty tools: Comes with tools for stairs, mattresses, dusting and hard floors to handle a wider range of cleaning tasks.
Q: Is this Dyson barrel vacuum a good fit for larger homes?
A: Yes. Dyson Big Ball Absolute Bagless Barrel Vacuum suits larger homes because it is built for all floor types, has a large-capacity bin and a wand that extends to 1250mm. The trade-off is a barrel design that feels less grab-and-go for quick spot cleans.
Q: Will it clean both rugs and hard floors effectively?
A: Yes. Dyson Big Ball Absolute Bagless Barrel Vacuum is engineered for all floor types, so it is a practical choice for homes with both rugs and hard floors. It is designed for mixed-surface cleaning rather than one single surface only, which matters in open-plan spaces.
Q: How easy is it to use on stairs and awkward areas?
A: It is designed to handle awkward areas more easily than a fixed wand setup. The wand extends to 1250mm and the handle rotates in three directions with full 360° articulation, but the barrel still stays on the floor, so stairs are not as simple as a hand-carried unit.
Q: Does the bin empty without touching the dust and debris?
A: Yes. Dyson Big Ball Absolute Bagless Barrel Vacuum uses a push-button hygienic dirt ejection system that drives out trapped dust and debris without needing to touch the contents.
Q: What happens if the vacuum tips over while you clean?
A: It self-rights when toppled, so cleaning is less likely to stop just because the barrel has fallen onto its side. That is useful when moving around furniture or corners, but it does not change the fact that this is still a full-size barrel vacuum to pull behind you.
Q: Can you buy replacement heads and parts for this model later?
A: Yes. Genuine Dyson replacement parts and vacuum heads are available for Dyson barrel vacuums, and compatibility is checked by model rather than by category alone. Use the selector for model 447178-01 before buying a spare head or replacement part.
