Q: Is the Cygnett 100W GaN PowerMaxx suitable for charging a laptop full time?
A: Yes, for many USB-C laptops it can replace the included charger if the laptop accepts USB-C charging at 100W or less. It is less suitable for models that use a proprietary barrel plug or need more than 100W under heavy load.
Q: What does GaN change on the Cygnett 100W PowerMaxx charger?
A: GaN improves efficiency, so a 100W charger can be made smaller than many older silicon designs. That makes it easier to carry for work or travel, although it can still feel warm when charging a laptop at high output for long periods.
Q: Do I need a specific USB-C cable to get the full 100W charge rate?
A: Yes, use a USB-C cable rated for 5A and 100W charging to reach the charger's maximum output. A lower rated cable may limit charging to around 60W or less, which can slow charging or only maintain battery level on some laptops.
Q: Can this charger fast charge phones and tablets as well as laptops?
A: Yes, if the phone or tablet supports USB-C Power Delivery, the charger can negotiate a lower power level safely. Charging speed is still capped by the device's own maximum input and the cable being used, not just the charger's 100W rating.
Q: Is 100W enough for performance laptops or gaming laptops?
A: It depends on the laptop's original power requirement. Around 100W suits many thin-and-light, business and creator laptops, but larger gaming models often ship with 180W or higher adapters, so this may only charge slowly or not keep up during gaming.
