At a glance
This mini hippo night light is a soft-glow LED lamp for children’s bedrooms and nurseries, suited to bedtime routines and overnight reassurance. It stands out for its cordless design, washable BPA-free silicone body and simple colour modes. The main limitation is that its 0.25 W output is intentionally gentle, so it is not bright enough for reading or active play.
What it’s great for
- Bedtime Comfort
- Overnight Reassurance
- Nursery Lighting
- Travel-Friendly Night Lighting
Where it works best
- Child's Bedroom
- Nursery
- Bedside Table
- Shelf
- Overnight Stays
Who it’s for
- Toddlers
- Young Children
- Parents
- Nursery Caregivers
Things to consider
Its 0.25 W LED is designed for soft ambient light, so it offers less brightness and fewer advanced controls than premium rechargeable or app-enabled night lights.
Child suitability
Well suited to toddlers and young children due to its soft-touch BPA-free silicone body, compact size and gentle light output.
Energy efficiency score
9/10 - low 0.25 W LED output helps keep power use very low for a night light.
Portability rating
9/10 - compact, lightweight and battery-powered for easy cord-free placement and travel.
Brightness vs category average
4/10 - dimmer than many night lights because it is designed for soft overnight ambiance, not reading light.
Ease of use score
8/10 - simple battery-powered operation and straightforward lighting modes make it easy to use daily.
Key benefits
- Soft Silicone Body: Gentle-touch silicone construction is comfortable for small hands and suitable for bedside use.
- BPA-Free Material: Helps make it a more child-friendly choice for bedrooms and nurseries.
- Washable Exterior: The outer body can be cleaned easily, making everyday upkeep simpler.
- Cord-Free Battery Power: Runs on a replaceable CR2032 battery so it can be placed on shelves or bedside tables without needing a power cord.
- Included Battery: Comes ready to use with a supplied battery for convenient setup.
- Up to 30 Hours Runtime: Provides extended overnight use before the battery needs replacing.
- Three Light Modes: Cool white, multi-colour and solid colour options let you choose a preferred bedtime glow.
- Low-Power 0.25 W LED: Uses a 0.25 W LED to deliver a gentle glow suited to night-time comfort rather than bright task lighting.
Q: Will this night light stay on through the whole night?
A: Yes. The included CR2032 battery provides up to 30 hours of operation for overnight use, so one battery can cover multiple nights depending on how long it runs each night. It uses a replaceable battery rather than mains power.
Q: Is the Hippo night light rechargeable or does it use batteries?
A: It uses a replaceable CR2032 battery, not a built-in rechargeable battery. That means there is no charging cable or dock to manage, but the coin battery will need replacing over time instead of being recharged.
Q: How bright is the glow for overnight feeds or nappy changes?
A: The light is a soft 0.25W LED glow, so it suits gentle overnight visibility rather than lighting a full room. It can help with quick checks near the cot or bedside, but it is not bright enough for reading or active play.
Q: Can the silicone Hippo night light be washed if it gets dirty?
A: Yes. The silicone body is washable, which is useful for a nursery or child's bedroom where dust, sticky marks or spills can happen. It is still an electronic night light, so wash the silicone exterior carefully rather than soaking the whole unit.
Q: What happens in solid colour mode on this Hippo light?
A: In solid colour mode, the Hippo light shows one colour instead of cycling through multiple colours. That suits a more consistent bedtime look, while multi-colour mode is the better choice if you want the colours to change during use.
