Apart from my printer preferring genuine Canon products, being able to obtain them from The Good Guys in XL is a bonus - these XL cartridges do last significantly longer than regular sized ones.

Q: What is the difference between PGBK and BK for this Canon cartridge?
A: PGBK is the pigment black cartridge used mainly for sharp text on plain paper, while BK often refers to a dye black photo cartridge in some Canon sets. This PGI-670XLBK is the pigment black type, so it is not a substitute for a photo black slot.
Q: Is Canon PGI-670XLBK the same cartridge type as PGI-670BK?
A: Yes. PGI-670XLBK and PGI-670BK are the same cartridge family and fit the same Canon printers that use PGI-670 pigment black. The XL version simply carries more ink, so it usually lasts longer and can reduce cost per page for regular document printing.
Q: Is the XL version worth buying over the standard PGI-670BK?
A: Yes, if the printer is used regularly for documents. An XL cartridge costs more upfront, but it typically prints noticeably more pages than the standard size, so it needs replacing less often. For very occasional printing, the standard cartridge may be enough.
Q: Do generic cartridges work in place of the Canon PGI-670XLBK?
A: They can, but results vary more than with a genuine Canon cartridge. Some generic options may trigger ink monitoring warnings or give less consistent text quality.
Q: Can the Canon PGI-670XLBK cartridge be refilled instead of replaced?
A: It can sometimes be refilled with third-party kits, but refilling is usually messier and less consistent than fitting a new cartridge. If the chip is not reset properly, the printer may not show ink levels normally, which makes low-ink monitoring less reliable.
