At a glance
This premium Bosch freestanding dishwasher is a strong fit for larger households wanting quiet operation, flexible loading and better drying performance. It handles 15 place settings, includes a third-level cutlery drawer and uses PerfectDry with Zeolith technology for thorough drying. The main trade-off is water use of 12.2L per cycle, so it is not the most water-frugal option compared with some specialist efficiency-focused models.

Things to consider
Its 12.2L water consumption per wash cycle means it is not the most water-efficient choice if minimising water use is your top priority.
Family use suitability
9/10 - Large 15 place setting capacity and flexible racks suit busy family meal cleanup well.
Energy efficiency score
8/10 - Strong 4.5 star energy rating with estimated annual energy consumption of 206kWh.
Ease of loading rating
9/10 - The VarioDrawer Pro and three-stage RackmaticPlus system make loading cutlery, plates and taller items easier.
Noise level vs category average
9/10 - At 42dBA, it is quieter than many standard freestanding dishwashers.
Installation flexibility
Freestanding 60cm design allows easier placement in a wider range of kitchen layouts without built-in cabinetry requirements.
Key benefits
- 15 Place Settings: Handles bigger household loads in one cycle, reducing the need for back-to-back washes.
- PerfectDry with Zeolith Drying Technology: Helps dry dishes more thoroughly, including harder-to-dry items.
- VarioDrawer Pro: Adds a dedicated third loading level for cutlery and utensils, freeing up basket space below.
- RackmaticPlus Upper Basket: Adjusts across three height stages to make room for taller items and awkward cookware.
- Extra Clean Zone: Gives heavily soiled items more focused washing power without needing a separate load.
- 42dBA Operation: Runs quietly enough to suit open-plan kitchens and evening wash cycles.
- 4.5 Star Energy Rating: Delivers strong energy performance with estimated annual energy consumption of 206kWh.
- 5 Star WELS Rating: Offers solid water efficiency for its size, with 12.2L used per wash cycle.
Q: Can this freestanding Bosch sit in a kitchen cavity neatly?
A: Yes. Bosch SMS8ZCI01A is a freestanding dishwasher, so it can be placed without integrated cabinetry around the door. It can suit a cavity-style position, but it will still look like a freestanding appliance rather than a fully built-in model.
Q: Does the third drawer reduce room for tall glasses below?
A: No, not by itself. The VarioDrawer Pro is a separate top level for cutlery and utensils, while the RackmaticPlus upper basket adjusts across three height stages to help create more room for taller glasses, plates or cookware below.
Q: Will it dry plastic containers and lunchboxes properly?
A: It is designed to improve drying on items that often retain moisture, using PerfectDry with Zeolith drying technology. Water can still sit in deep bases, rims or nested plastics, so loading position still matters for the final result.
Q: Can it handle baked-on dishes without running a separate wash?
A: Yes. Bosch SMS8ZCI01A includes an Extra Clean Zone for items with heavier soil, so plates, bowls or casserole dishes can get more focused washing within the same load. It is meant for stubborn mess, not for overcrowding every rack.
Q: Is this Bosch dishwasher costly to run over a year?
A: Bosch SMS8ZCI01A has a 4.5 star energy rating and estimated annual energy consumption of 206kWh. That generally points to lower electricity use than other 60cm freestanding dishwashers with a lower energy rating, though usage patterns still matter.
