Rusting front panel
The dishwasher itself is ok, however the front panel is rusting, even though it is supposed to be stainless steel.

At a glance
This compact Bosch Series 6 freestanding dishwasher is a strong fit for apartments, couples and smaller households that want quiet operation, smart app control and flexible wash programs. Its key strengths are space-saving size, 10 place setting capacity and practical safety features. The main limitation is that it offers less internal capacity than full-size 60cm models for larger families or heavy entertaining.

Things to consider
Its 45cm format and 10 place setting capacity are ideal for compact spaces, but larger households may prefer a 60cm model with more room for bulky cookware and bigger daily loads.
Family use suitability
6/10 - suitable for couples and small households, but the 10 place setting capacity is limited for larger families
Energy efficiency score
6/10 - respectable 3 star energy rating and 205kWh estimated annual energy use, but not class-leading
Ease of loading rating
7/10 - compact format is easy to manage, though the narrower 45cm interior offers less flexibility for bulky items
Noise level vs category average
7/10 - 48dB is quietly competitive for a freestanding dishwasher and works well in open-plan spaces
Installation flexibility
High - freestanding 45cm design suits smaller kitchens, apartments and spaces where a full-width unit may not fit
Key benefits
- 10 Place Settings: Gives smaller households useful daily capacity without taking up the floor space of a full-width dishwasher.
- 48dB Operation: Runs quietly enough to suit open-plan living and evening cycles with less disruption.
- Home Connect: Lets you monitor and control wash cycles remotely from a compatible smart device for added convenience.
- Six Wash Programs: Covers everyday dishes, glassware, pots and pans, quick cleans and automatic adjustment for varied loads.
- SpeedPerfect: Reduces wash time when you need clean dishes sooner for faster kitchen turnarounds.
- Inherent Heat Drying: Uses residual heat to dry dishes gently without an added separate drying system.
- Water Efficiency: Uses 11.2L per wash cycle with a 3.5 star WELS rating to help manage water use.
- Energy Efficiency: Delivers a 3 star energy rating with estimated annual energy consumption of 205kWh.
Q: Is a 45cm dishwasher big enough for a small household?
A: Yes. Bosch SPS6IKI01A holds 10 place settings, which suits couples or a small family better than a larger household's entertaining load. The trade-off is less room for bulky pots and big mixed loads than a wider dishwasher.
Q: Will this Bosch dishwasher suit an open-plan kitchen or apartment?
A: Yes. Bosch SPS6IKI01A is rated at 48dB, so normal conversation is less likely to be dominated while it runs. It is not silent, but it is a sensible fit for compact homes where the kitchen sits close to living or dining areas.
Q: What can Home Connect do on this dishwasher day to day?
A: Home Connect lets you start, monitor and control cycles from a compatible smart device without standing at the machine. It is useful for checking progress or running a cycle overnight, but app setup and an internet connection are required.
Q: How well does the drying system handle plastics and glassware?
A: This model uses inherent heat drying, which relies on residual heat rather than a separate heated drying element. That is gentler on glassware, but lighter plastic items can sometimes come out with more moisture than heavier plates or bowls.
Q: Can the quick wash handle everyday dishes or just light rinsing?
A: Yes. The Quick 1hr program is designed for a faster turnaround on day-to-day loads, not just a rinse. Heavily soiled cookware is better on a stronger cycle such as Pots & Pans, especially when food has dried on.
Q: How much bench and cupboard space does this dishwasher save?
A: Bosch SPS6IKI01A is 45cm wide, so it takes less horizontal space than a standard full-width dishwasher. That makes it easier to place in smaller kitchens, but the narrower cabinet also means less room for oversized platters and large pans.
