At a glance
This Bosch Series 8 built-under dishwasher is a premium option for families wanting high capacity, quiet running and flexible loading in a 60cm kitchen cavity. It stands out for strong drying performance, a cutlery drawer and adjustable baskets that help with mixed loads. A key limitation is that its built-under format will not deliver the fully concealed finish of a fully integrated dishwasher.

Best for kitchens needing a 60cm built-under fit with a semi-integrated appearance
Family size fit
9/10 - 15 place settings suits medium to large families well
Water efficiency score

Ease of use rating
9/10 - flexible baskets, a cutlery drawer and multiple programmes make daily loading and washing easier
Key benefits
- 15 Place Settings: Handles large family meals and bigger clean-ups with fewer loads.
- 42dB Noise Level: Runs quietly enough to suit open-plan homes and evening cycles with less disruption.
- PerfectDry with Zeolith Drying Technology: Helps deliver more thorough drying, including harder-to-dry items.
- VarioDrawer Pro: Adds a dedicated top area for cutlery and utensils to free up space below.
- RackmaticPlus Upper Basket: Makes it easier to fit taller glasses, plates and awkward items by adjusting basket height.
- Extra Clean Zone: Gives heavily soiled dishes more targeted washing power where it is needed most.
- 4.5 Star Energy Rating: Offers strong energy performance with estimated annual consumption of 206kWh.
- 5 Star WELS Water Rating: Uses 12.2L per wash cycle, helping keep water use lower for a full-size dishwasher.
Q: Will this dishwasher sit fully hidden behind kitchen cabinetry?
A: No. Bosch SMU8ZCS01A is a built-under dishwasher with a visible brushed steel front, so it does not take a full cabinet door panel. It suits a 60cm under-bench cavity when you want an integrated look without full concealment.
Q: Is 42dB quiet enough for an open-plan family kitchen?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU8ZCS01A runs at 42dB, which is very quiet for a full-size dishwasher and suits evening cycles in open-plan homes. You will still hear some water movement and pump noise, but it is not a loud, intrusive wash.
Q: How flexible is the loading for tall glasses and cutlery?
A: Bosch SMU8ZCS01A is designed for flexible loading with a VarioDrawer Pro for cutlery and utensils, plus a RackmaticPlus upper basket for taller items below or above. That makes mixed loads easier, especially when glasses, plates and serving pieces need space.
Q: Does PerfectDry work well on plastic containers and lunchboxes?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU8ZCS01A uses PerfectDry with Zeolith drying technology, which is designed to improve drying on harder-to-dry items such as plastics. It helps reduce leftover moisture, though container rims and deep bases can still hold some water.
Q: What makes the Extra Clean Zone useful for heavily soiled dishes?
A: The Extra Clean Zone gives selected items more targeted wash action, which helps with tougher food residue on dishes placed in that area. It is useful when one load mixes lightly used glasses with dirtier plates, bowls or serving items.
Q: Is Bosch Series 8 a good fit for larger households?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU8ZCS01A holds 15 place settings, so it suits medium to large households and homes that wash bigger dinner loads regularly. It is less suitable if you want a compact dishwasher for a small kitchen or very light daily use.
