Bosch Dishwasher
The fact that the dishwasher was easy to install, exceptionally quiet, spacious, and so far seems to be a pretty efficient appliance. We looked at the specs and compared it to other units in a similar price range. The various racks inside are adjustable and helped us to decide on this models

At a glance
This Bosch Series 6 built-under dishwasher is a strong mid-range option for medium to large households, with 15 place settings, quiet 44dB operation and flexible loading through adjustable racks and a VarioDrawer. It is especially good for mixed daily loads, family kitchens and connected homes thanks to Home Connect. One limitation is that it does not offer the ultra-low noise or premium finishing features found in higher-end models.
What it’s great for
- Family dishwashing
- Mixed daily loads
- Open-plan kitchens
- Entertaining clean-up
- Connected home appliance control
Where it works best
- Family homes
- Open-plan kitchens
- Medium households
- Large households
- Renovation kitchens
Who it’s for
- Families
- Busy households
- Home renovators
- Entertainers
- Users wanting app control
Things to consider
While well equipped for everyday family use, it is not as whisper-quiet or as feature-rich as premium dishwashers with lower noise levels, advanced drying upgrades or more specialised wash zones.
Family size suitability
Medium to large households
Quietness rating
8/10 - 44dB operation is well suited to open-plan kitchens and evening use.
Energy & water efficiency score
8/10 - 4 star energy rating, estimated annual energy use of 245kWh, and 5.5 star WELS with 11 L per wash.
Renovation fit
Good fit for standard 60cm built-under kitchen spaces.
Key benefits
- 15 Place Settings: Handles larger family meals and entertaining loads in a single wash.
- 44dB Quiet Operation: Runs quietly enough for open-plan kitchens and evening cycles.
- VarioDrawer Third Level: Creates a dedicated space for cutlery and utensils, freeing room in the lower baskets.
- Flexible Basket System: Adjustable racks make it easier to fit plates, glassware and mixed-size cookware.
- Eight Wash Programs: Gives practical options for eco washing, automatic sensing, heavy pots and pans, and faster everyday cycles.
- Heat Exchanger Drying: Helps dry dishes more gently while protecting plastics and glassware from sudden temperature changes.
- Home Connect Wi-Fi: Lets you start, monitor and manage wash cycles remotely through the app.
- Water Efficiency: Uses 11 L per wash cycle and has a 5.5 star WELS rating to help keep water use low.
Q: Does the Bosch SMU6HCS01A dry plastic containers properly?
A: Bosch SMU6HCS01A uses heat exchanger drying, which is gentler on plastics and glassware. Expect good everyday results, but lighter plastic items may still need a quick wipe or extra drying time because this model does not use Zeolith drying.
Q: Is 44dB quiet enough for an open plan kitchen?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU6HCS01A runs at 44dB, which is quiet enough for most open-plan kitchens and evening cycles. It is not silent, so you may still notice water sounds nearby, but normal conversation should not be interrupted.
Q: Can the third rack fit serving spoons and long utensils?
A: Yes. The VarioDrawer adds a separate top level for cutlery and many longer utensils, which frees space in the lower baskets for plates and bowls. Very bulky serving tools may still fit better in the main racks, depending on the load.
Q: Will this dishwasher suit a family of four or more?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU6HCS01A holds 15 place settings, so it suits medium to large households and homes that entertain often. If you mostly run small daily loads, the extra internal space may be more than some couples or smaller homes need.
Q: Can I start and monitor this dishwasher from my phone?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU6HCS01A connects to Wi-Fi and works with the Home Connect app for remote start, status checks and cycle monitoring. You still need home Wi-Fi and initial app setup, so offline-only use misses those smart features.
Q: Does Bosch SMU6HCS01A have a fast wash for busy nights?
A: Yes. Bosch SMU6HCS01A includes an Express Wash program, and Speed on Demand can shorten a cycle when you need dishes turned around sooner. For heavily baked-on cookware, a longer intensive program is usually the better option.
Q: Is this a built under dishwasher or fully integrated?
A: It is a built-under dishwasher for a standard 60cm under-bench space, with the control panel remaining visible at the front. It does not take a full cabinetry door panel, so it will not disappear behind matching kitchen joinery.
