Does the job!
Folding handheld vacuums are the go for a quick clean up - they are particularly handy for the caravan or car and have really effective suction power for such a small unit. My husband commandeered the one from the caravan for his shed so I bought this one to use for the car. It's also great for those quick, small jobs around the house.

At a glance

Its pivoting nozzle, integrated tools and bagless 0.44L bin make spot cleaning simple. Cyclonic filtration helps maintain suction, but the up to 10-minute runtime is better for short tasks than larger cleaning sessions.

With up to 10 minutes of runtime per charge, it is more suited to short spot cleaning jobs than whole-car deep cleans or longer sessions handled by larger or more premium handheld vacuums.
Pet hair performance score
4/10 - suitable for light loose hair, but it is not positioned as a pet-focused handheld vacuum.
Car cleaning suitability
8/10 - compact format, pivoting nozzle and integrated crevice tool suit seats, footwells and tight interior spaces.
Portability rating
9/10 - handheld cordless design and compact foldable storage make it easy to carry and use around the home or car.
Battery endurance rating
5/10 - up to 10 minutes per charge is adequate for short clean-ups but limited for longer tasks.
Ease of emptying
Easy - the bagless 0.44L bin is designed for quick emptying between jobs.
Key benefits
- 5870Pa suction power: helps lift everyday dust and debris from carpets, hard floors and parquet flooring.
- 200-degree pivoting nozzle: makes it easier to reach awkward angles and tight corners with less wrist movement.
- Cyclonic action: helps separate dirt from airflow to support more consistent suction during use.
- Triple action filtration: supports cleaner airflow through the vacuum while capturing dust and debris.
- Integrated extendable crevice tool: gives quick access for edges, gaps and narrow spaces without needing separate attachments.
- Integrated soft brush: useful for gentler cleaning on shelves, drawers and upholstery surfaces.
- 0.44L bagless bin: provides enough capacity for everyday spot cleaning and empties quickly for fast turnaround.
- Foldable compact design: folds in half for easier storage when space is limited.
Q: Can the Dustbuster vacuum up liquid spills or damp mess?
A: No. BLACK & DECKER PV1820L-XE is a dry handheld vacuum, so it is made for dust, crumbs and dry debris only. Liquid spills or damp mess can affect the filter and bin, so a wet and dry cleaner is the better fit for that job.
Q: Does this handheld vacuum pick up pet hair well?
A: It can handle light pet hair on upholstery and floors, but it is not a pet-specific handheld. BLACK & DECKER PV1820L-XE is better for everyday fur, dust and crumbs than heavy shedding or deeply embedded hair.
Q: How long does the battery last for each charge?
A: BLACK & DECKER PV1820L-XE runs for up to 10 minutes per charge on a full battery. That suits stairs, the car or one-off spot cleaning, but it is not intended to replace a full-size vacuum for longer cleaning sessions.
Q: Can it clean car seats, footwells and tight gaps properly?
A: Yes. BLACK & DECKER PV1820L-XE has a pivoting nozzle plus integrated crevice and soft brush tools, so it suits seats, footwells and door pockets. It is designed for quick car tidy-ups rather than long, whole-car cleaning sessions.
Q: Where do you store and charge this model?
A: BLACK & DECKER PV1820L-XE folds in half for compact storage and includes a charging base. It is not wall mountable, so it needs bench, shelf or cupboard space near a power point rather than hanging storage.
Q: How noisy is this handheld vacuum in use?
A: BLACK & DECKER PV1820L-XE is listed at 85 dBA, which is typical for a handheld vacuum rather than a low-noise design. It suits short clean-ups, but it is not the right pick if quieter operation is a main priority.
