Good suction and sturdy build. Took care of stains.
Plenty of power packed into this thing and got the stains out. Comes with three different attachments to handle carpets, upholstery etc and big enough to cover a larger general area.

At a glance
The Bissell SpotClean Carpet Cleaner is a portable stain remover for carpets, rugs, upholstery and car interiors. It suits households that want quick clean-ups for spills and pet messes, with strong suction, compact storage and easy room-to-room movement. The separate clean and dirty tanks help keep jobs tidy, but its smaller tank capacity makes it better for spot cleaning than full-room deep cleaning.

Things to consider
This model is best for targeted stain removal and small cleaning tasks; premium or specialist carpet cleaners are better suited to larger areas and longer uninterrupted cleaning sessions.
Pet stain removal score
8/10 - strong choice for everyday pet accidents and spot treatment on carpet and upholstery.
Large area suitability
Best for small areas, spot cleaning and targeted messes rather than full-room carpet cleaning.
Ease of use
8/10 - portable size, separate tanks and a 4.5m cord make it straightforward for quick clean-ups.
Drying time rating
7/10 - suction helps remove moisture well, though drying time still depends on fabric type and stain severity.
Key benefits
- Portable Design: Compact format is easier to carry between rooms, stairs and vehicles.
- 400W Motor: Provides strong suction power to help lift everyday spots and stains.
- 950mL Clean Water Tank: Supports small cleaning jobs before needing a refill.
- 850mL Dirty Water Tank: Separates collected dirty water for cleaner stain removal and easier emptying.
- 4.5m Cord: Gives useful reach for moving around rooms without constantly changing power points.
- Tough Stain Tool: Helps target concentrated spots on carpet, fabric and upholstery.
- Self-Cleaning Tool Function: Helps rinse residue from the hose and attachment after use.
- Heatwave Technology: Helps maintain water temperature during cleaning for more consistent stain treatment.
Q: Is this Bissell SpotClean suitable for whole-room carpet cleaning?
A: No. Bissell SpotClean 3861F is built for targeted stains and small areas, not full-room deep cleaning. The 950ml clean tank and 850ml dirty tank suit quick jobs, but larger carpeted spaces will mean more stopping to refill and empty.
Q: Can it clean car seats and footwells without being awkward?
A: Yes. Bissell SpotClean 3861F is designed for auto interiors as well as carpet and upholstery, and the portable body is easier to carry into the garage or driveway than a full-size cleaner. It still needs mains power, so the car needs to be near a power point.
Q: How wet do carpets stay after using the SpotClean?
A: Bissell SpotClean 3861F uses strong suction to pull back dirty water, so carpets and upholstery should be left damp rather than saturated. They are not instantly dry, and drying time still varies with fabric type, room airflow and how much solution is used.
Q: Will it work on fabric couches, rugs and stairs?
A: Yes. This model is intended for carpets, rugs, fabric upholstery and stairs, so it suits the common soft surfaces a full-size machine can be awkward on. It is a spot cleaner though, so larger lounge suites or big rugs may need several tank refills.
Q: Does the Heatwave feature actually heat the water while cleaning?
A: No. The Heatwave feature is designed to help maintain a more consistent water temperature during cleaning, rather than acting like a separate water heater. Warm solution still makes the most sense for use, especially on heavier or older stains.
Q: Is the Bissell 3861F easy to carry and store?
A: Yes. Bissell SpotClean 3861F has a compact footprint at 34.2cm high, 33.9cm wide and 24.8cm deep, which makes it easier to tuck into a cupboard than a full-size carpet cleaner. The boxed weight is 5kg, so it is also manageable to move between rooms.
Q: What does the self-cleaning Tough Stain Tool actually do?
A: The self-cleaning Tough Stain Tool helps rinse residue from the hose and attachment after use, which makes cleanup simpler after a spill or pet mess. It does not replace emptying the dirty tank or refilling the clean tank for the next job.
