Excellent mop
So quick to put together, simple to operate. It picked up so much dirt on my floorboards that I'm embarrassed. I bought this because I hate dealing with a bucket mop and this is so much easier, it's crazy that I didn't know it existed before.

At a glance
The Bissell Select Steam Mop is a straightforward steam cleaner for sealed hard floors, ideal for households wanting quick, chemical-free everyday mopping. Its light 3.1 kg design, 30-second heat-up and corner-friendly triangular head make it easy to use around the home. It is best suited to routine floor cleaning rather than larger homes that may benefit from a longer cord or bigger water tank.
What it’s great for
- Everyday hard floor cleaning
- Quick spill clean-ups
- Chemical-free mopping
- Corner and edge cleaning
- Routine household sanitising
Where it works best
- Homes with sealed hard floors
- Apartments
- Small to medium rooms
- Kitchens
- Hallways
- Living areas
Who it’s for
- Everyday households
- Apartment dwellers
- Time-poor cleaners
- Families with sealed hard floors
- Users wanting water-only cleaning
Things to consider
The 0.5 L tank and 5.5 m cord are practical for regular home use, but premium steam mops may offer larger tanks, longer reach or more specialised attachments for bigger areas and deeper cleaning versatility.
Pet owner suitability
Good for pet households with sealed hard floors, especially for routine paw marks and everyday messes
Allergy friendliness
8/10 - water-only steam cleaning reduces reliance on chemical floor cleaners and washable pads help support cleaner upkeep
Multi-surface cleaning score
6/10 - works well on sealed hard floors such as timber, vinyl and polished concrete, but it is not intended as a broad multi-surface cleaner
Ease of use rating
8/10 - lightweight build, quick 30-second heat-up and a swivel triangular head make routine cleaning simple
Noise level vs category average
About average - steam mops are generally quieter than many vacuum-based floor cleaners, and this model is designed for straightforward steam mopping rather than high-noise suction
Key benefits
- 30-second heat-up: gets ready quickly for fast touch-up cleans and regular mopping sessions.
- 0.5 L water tank: provides a useful capacity for standard room-by-room sealed floor cleaning without constant refilling.
- Triangular mop head: reaches corners, edges and tighter spaces more easily than broader rectangular heads.
- Lightweight 3.1 kg body: makes it easier to carry between rooms and manoeuvre during longer cleaning sessions.
- 5.5 m power cord: covers most everyday cleaning zones with fewer power point changes.
- Washable microfibre pads included: supports lower ongoing replacement needs for regular use.
- Water-only steam cleaning: cleans sealed hard floors without needing harsh chemical cleaners.
- Swivel head: helps the mop move under and around furniture with better control.
Q: Can this steam mop be used on sealed timber floors?
A: Yes. The Bissell Select Steam Mop is made for sealed hard floors, including sealed timber, vinyl and polished concrete. It is not for unsealed, waxed or moisture-sensitive floors, where steam can mark or damage the surface.
Q: Do you need to add cleaning solution or disinfectant to the tank?
A: No. This model is designed for steam cleaning with water only, so there is no need to add floor cleaner or disinfectant to the tank. If you prefer scented or chemical cleaning, this is not the right fit.
Q: Is the Bissell 23V8F suitable for a large home?
A: It suits quick cleans and regular mopping across small to medium areas, with a 500mL tank and 5.5m cord for practical reach. In a larger home, expect to change power points and refill the tank more often than with a bigger steam cleaner.
Q: How well does the triangular head clean corners and around furniture?
A: The triangular head is designed to reach tighter corners, edges and spaces around table legs more easily than a broad rectangular pad. It still needs enough floor clearance to pass under furniture, so very low pieces can limit access.
Q: What pads come with the Bissell Select Steam Mop?
A: The Bissell Select Steam Mop includes washable microfibre pads for regular use, including pads suited to everyday cleaning and tougher sticky messes. The reusable design cuts down on disposable pad replacements, but pads still need washing between uses.
Q: Will it replace a bucket mop for heavy dried-on mess?
A: It works well for routine sealed-floor cleaning and fresh everyday mess, especially when the pad can lift dirt with steam. For heavy dried-on spills or built-up grime, some pre-treatment or manual scrubbing may still be needed.
