At a glance
A machine-use carpet cleaning formula for carpets, rugs and upholstery that helps remove everyday stains and lingering odours during whole-home cleaning. It suits pet owners and busy households wanting a genuine Bissell solution for regular maintenance or spot treatment. Key strengths are broad surface suitability, easy use in the formula tank and good odour control. Limitation: it is intended for compatible Bissell machines rather than general manual cleaning.
What it’s great for
- Routine carpet washing
- Pet mess clean-up
- Odour reduction
- Whole-home refresh
- Upholstery maintenance
Where it works best
- Pet households
- Busy family homes
- Carpeted living rooms
- Bedrooms
- Rug-covered spaces
Who it’s for
- Pet owners
- Families with children
- Busy households
- Bissell carpet washer owners
- Home cleaners
Things to consider
This formula is best suited to compatible Bissell carpet washers, so it is less flexible than specialist spot treatments or hand-applied stain removers for delicate fabrics and non-machine cleaning.
Pet & child home suitability
Well suited to pet homes and busy family households; patch test on delicate fabrics before use.
Stain removal effectiveness
8/10 - Strong for everyday machine-wash stain removal on carpets, rugs and upholstery, though specialist spot removers may perform better on some set-in stains.
Ease of application
9/10 - Simple to use by adding it to the formula tank of a compatible Bissell machine.
Odour removal score
8/10 - Effective for reducing common household and pet odours during machine cleaning.
Key benefits
- Stain removal formula: Helps lift everyday carpet and upholstery stains during machine washing.
- Odour control: Reduces lingering smells while cleaning, making rooms feel fresher after washing.
- Multi-surface use: Suitable for carpets, rugs and upholstery for broader household cleaning coverage.
- Pet-home suitability: Well matched to homes dealing with pet-related stains and odours.
- Machine-tank application: Designed to pour into the formula tank for straightforward use with compatible carpet washers.
- Routine cleaning support: Works well for regular maintenance as well as tackling more stubborn spots.
- 750 mL bottle size: Provides approximately 3 to 6 formula tank fills depending on machine size and cleaning area.
- Genuine Bissell formula: Designed for compatibility with a wide range of Bissell carpet washers.
Q: Can the Bissell Professional Stain And Odour formula be used on upholstery as well as carpet?
A: Yes. This formula is intended for carpets, rugs and upholstery, so it suits whole-home cleaning rather than carpet only. As with most carpet washer solutions, patch test a small hidden area first, especially on delicate or colour-sensitive fabric.
Q: How do you use Bissell 78H6E in a carpet cleaner?
A: Use it in the formula or solution tank of a compatible carpet washer, following the fill marks on the machine and the directions on the bottle. It is a machine cleaning formula, not a ready-to-use spray, so it is designed to be mixed during carpet washing.
Q: Is this formula the best Bissell option for pet odours, or is the pet urine formula better?
A: This formula is a good fit for general stains and odours, including homes with pets. If the main issue is repeat pet urine accidents, Bissell's Wash and Remove Pro Oxy Pet Urine Eliminator is the more targeted choice in the same formula range.
Q: How much cleaning does one 750mL bottle usually provide?
A: A 750mL bottle usually gives several cleaning sessions, often about 3 to 6 formula-tank fills depending on the BISSELL model. Actual use varies with tank size, how heavily soiled the area is, and whether you are cleaning one room or the whole house.
Q: Can this formula be used in carpet cleaners from brands other than Bissell?
A: It is formulated for Bissell carpet cleaners, so that is the safest match for expected cleaning performance. Other brands may require a different low-foaming detergent type, and using the wrong formula can affect results or leave excess residue in the machine.
