Awesome clean
Loved this formula over the standard wash formula. It made our carpet look near new when used with the deep cleaning mode and gave us the extra reassurance of the carpet being sanitised especially with three dogs

I have a bissel carpet cleaner. This product is supposedly the only product bissel recommends. It does what it is supposed to do. I love it. Carpet looks brand new.

At a glance
The Bissell Antibacterial Formula is a 1.25 L carpet cleaning solution made for compatible Bissell carpet washers. It suits busy homes, including pet households, that want larger-volume cleaning for full-room washes and repeat use. Its main strengths are machine compatibility, practical bottle size, and hygiene-focused cleaning. One limitation is that it is intended for selected Bissell carpet washers rather than general hard floor or spray-and-wipe cleaning.
What it’s great for
- Full-room carpet washing
- Routine carpet maintenance
- Pet household cleaning
- High-traffic area refreshes
Where it works best
- Family homes
- Pet-friendly homes
- Carpeted living rooms
- Carpeted bedrooms
Who it’s for
- Pet owners
- Busy households
- Families with children
- Bissell carpet washer owners
Things to consider
This formula is best for compatible Bissell carpet washers and is less versatile than specialist spot-cleaning products or multi-surface cleaners.
Pet & child home suitability
Well suited to homes with pets and children that need regular carpet washing and hygiene-focused cleaning.
Stain removal effectiveness
7/10 - designed for carpet washing and routine stain removal in compatible machines, but not described as a specialist heavy-duty spot treatment.
Ease of application
8/10 - straightforward to use in compatible Bissell carpet washers, though it is not intended for spray-and-wipe or hard floor use.
Odour removal score
7/10 - supports fresher carpet cleaning through machine washing, but no specific odour-neutralising claim is provided.
Key benefits
- 1.25 L Capacity: The larger bottle supports extended cleaning sessions and repeated washes across multiple carpeted areas.
- Machine-Specific Compatibility: Designed for compatible Bissell carpet cleaning machines to help deliver intended cleaning performance.
- Antibacterial Formula: Suits households that prioritise a more hygiene-focused approach to carpet care.
- Full-Room Cleaning Use: Practical for larger carpet washes instead of only small spot treatments.
- Multi-Area Cleaning Support: Well suited to repeated cleaning in busy zones such as lounges, hallways, and bedrooms.
- Pet-Home Suitability: A sensible option for homes that need regular carpet washing due to everyday pet mess and traffic.
- Broad Model Matching: Compatible with multiple listed Bissell models, making replacement purchasing simpler for existing owners.
Q: Will this work in my Bissell SpotClean or CrossWave machine
A: No, not by default. Bissell 1898E is listed for specific carpet washer models only, and SpotClean or CrossWave machines are not named here. If the exact model number is not on the compatibility list, treat it as unsupported.
Q: Can I use this as a spray-on carpet spot cleaner
A: No. This formula is intended for compatible Bissell carpet cleaning machines rather than direct spray-and-wipe use. It suits machine washing across larger carpeted areas, not hand-applied spot treatment on its own.
Q: Is Bissell 1898E a replacement if my old bottle ran out
A: Yes, if your cleaner is one of the listed compatible models. Bissell 1898E is the same formula reference, so it suits buyers replacing an empty bottle, but it should not be treated as a universal Bissell solution for every machine.
Q: Does this formula help with pet mess on carpet
A: Yes. Bissell 1898E suits routine carpet washing in pet homes and can be used for general pet-related marks in compatible machines. It is not positioned as a specialist heavy-stain treatment or a dedicated hard-floor cleaner.
Q: Is the 1.25L bottle enough for whole-room carpet cleaning
A: Yes, it is sized for longer cleaning sessions. The 1.25L bottle is better suited to full-room washes and repeated cleaning across multiple carpeted areas than a small trial-size bottle, but machine use is still required.
Q: Does this carpet formula leave a strong fragrance afterwards
A: No strong fragrance claim is attached to this formula. Its focus is machine-based carpet cleaning with an antibacterial positioning, so if a pronounced scent is a priority, this is better viewed as a cleaning solution first and a fragrance product second.
