  Good little grinder!

  Bought this to replace a Breville Smart Grinder that stopped working after several years. I'd say the Baratza is probably a little better than the Breville in terms of grind quality. Pro's: * Good grind quality * Small footprint * Cheaper than the breville (and overall, very reasonably priced) Con's: * No timer for dosing * No holder to grind straight into portafilter; minor adjustment grinding into container first.

  Excellent product for the price.

  The Baratza does a great job grinding. We have tried it on different settings and found the right grind for using with our Aeropress. It's not hard to clean and maintain. (The necessary shims are a little fiddly.) From the videos I've watched, the current version is an improvement on previous versions. It has a thin platform for the collection cup, which ideally could be another 3cm higher, to reduce the amount of granules that end up outside of the cup, clinging to the inner sides of the case. The cup diameter is great for the Aeropress and would be just right for the portafilter of an espresso machine. The conical grounds bin would be great for filter coffee, but awkward for the Aeropress or portafilter. To be expected, it's a bit noisy, but not as noisy as others. Spare parts are available, direct from Baratza Australia. Having watched many videos, I'm thinking of getting the felt, some shims and a hopper gasket. Yep, I recommend this product! Suggestion: Let the lid of the hopper rest on top, not quite closed. At the end of a grind, give it a solid pat to close it. That will push any remaining grinds, out and into the cup.

  Good grinder for home use

  I am no expert on grinders, and you can get a grinder from $80 to over $1500. I didnt need anything that was over the top. I wanted something of decent quality that meets my needs at home. It was down to this v the Breville Smart Grinder Pro which was a little cheaper and also well rated. I opted for this because the company that makes them only makes grinders and reviews were really good plus there were questions around the longevity of the motor on the Breville We have been using it for a few weeks and the difference in the coffee taste is huge (compared to pre ground coffee). Really happy with the purchase. Good quality, reasonably priced for home, looks really good (I hated the look of the Breville), and based on the reviews, should last us for a long time.
