At a glance
The Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBK is a fully automatic belt-drive turntable made for easy vinyl listening at home. It suits beginners and casual enthusiasts who want simple setup, stable playback and direct connection to powered speakers or amplifiers. Key strengths include the built-in phono preamp, automatic operation and low-vibration platter. Its main limitation is that it offers less manual control and upgrade flexibility than more audiophile-focused turntables.

- First Turntable Setups

- Living Room Hi-Fi
- Simple Plug-and-Play Playback
Where it works best
- Living Room

Who it’s for

- Home Audio User
- Vinyl Enthusiast Seeking Simplicity
Things to consider
This model prioritises convenience over tweakability, so it is less suited to buyers wanting advanced cartridge upgrades, manual tonearm adjustment or higher-end audiophile tuning.
Beginner vs audiophile fit
Best for beginners and casual vinyl users; less suited to dedicated audiophile system builders.
Home audio integration score
9/10 - built-in switchable phono preamp makes it easy to connect to powered speakers, stereos and amplifiers.
Portability rating
6/10 - compact enough to move around the home, but best treated as a fixed setup component with dust cover in place.
Vinyl preservation suitability
8/10 - automatic operation, improved tracking design and stable speed support gentle everyday record playback when used correctly.
Key benefits
- Fully Automatic Operation: Start, stop and tonearm actions are simplified for easy everyday use, especially for new vinyl listeners.
- Switchable Phono Preamp: Connects directly to powered speakers, stereos or amplifiers without needing a dedicated phono input.
- Two-Speed Playback: Supports both 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records for compatibility with common LPs and singles.
- Anti-Resonance Aluminium Platter: Helps reduce vibration for cleaner, steadier playback.
- Redesigned Tonearm Base and Headshell: Improves tracking and helps reduce unwanted resonance during playback.
- Dual Magnet Cartridge: Delivers dependable playback and makes stylus replacement straightforward.
- DC Servo Motor: Maintains consistent platter speed for stable listening performance.
- Signal-to-Noise Ratio: Greater than 50 dB helps keep background noise low for clearer home listening.
Q: Does this turntable need an amplifier or powered speakers to work
A: Yes. The ATLP60XBK can connect straight to powered speakers, or to a stereo or amplifier, because it has a switchable built-in phono preamp. Passive speakers still need an amplifier or receiver between the turntable and the speakers.
Q: Can the ATLP60XBK connect to Bluetooth speakers or headphones
A: No. ATLP60XBK is a wired turntable, not the Bluetooth version in this range. It connects by cable to powered speakers, a stereo, or an amplifier, so wireless speakers or headphones are not a direct match unless they also support a wired input.
Q: Will this turntable work with an older stereo system
A: Maybe, depending on the inputs on the stereo. The built-in phono preamp helps because the turntable can feed a standard line-level input, but compatibility still depends on having the right wired connection. Systems without a suitable audio input are not a simple match.
Q: Will it play both singles and full-size LP records
A: Yes. It plays records at 33 1/3 and 45 RPM, so it covers standard LPs and most singles. It does not offer 78 RPM playback, which matters if your collection includes older shellac records or speciality reissues made for that speed.
Q: Is the stylus replaceable on the Audio Technica ATLP60XBK
A: Yes. The ATLP60XBK uses a Dual Magnet cartridge with straightforward stylus replacement, so normal stylus wear does not mean replacing the whole deck. Upgrade flexibility is still limited if you want broader cartridge changes later on.
Q: Is this a good choice for older or warped records
A: ATLP60XBK suits everyday vinyl listening better than problem records. Improved tracking helps with regular playback, but badly warped or heavily scratched discs can still be difficult for an entry-level fully automatic turntable to play cleanly.
