Product Overview

The MacBook Pro 14" with M4 Pro chip 24GB 512GB in Space Black MX2H3X/A gives you outrageous performance in a powerhouse laptop built for Apple Intelligence (1). With up to 22 hours of battery life (2) and a breathtaking Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1,600 nits peak brightness, it’s pro in every way. Supercharged by M4 Pro chip, it powers through demanding tasks like compiling millions of lines of code. Built for Apple Intelligence that is coming in December 2024 (1), it is the personal intelligence system that helps you write, express yourself and get things done effortlessly. With groundbreaking privacy protections, it gives you peace of mind that no-one else can access your data — not even Apple. The 14-inch MacBook Pro delivers the same exceptional performance whether it’s running on battery or plugged in with up to 24 hours of battery life (2). All your favourites, including Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, run lightning-fast in macOS with Apple Silicon (3). MacBook Pro works like magic with your other Apple devices, you can view and control what’s on your iPhone from your Mac with iPhone Mirroring (4), copy something on iPhone and paste it on Mac, send texts with Messages or use your Mac to make and answer FaceTime calls (5). The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display (6) features 1,600 nits peak brightness and up to 1,000 nits sustained brightness, 1,000,000:1 contrast. With better camera and audio technology, you can stay perfectly framed and sound great with a 12MP Center Stage camera, three studio-quality mics, and six speakers with Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos. The 14-inch MacBook Pro features three Thunderbolt 5 ports, a MagSafe 3 charging port, SDXC card slot, HDMI port and headphone jack. And it supports up to two external displays with M4 Pro, or up to four with M4 Max. Every Mac comes with robust defences against viruses and malware, as the privacy and security are built in within your devices. If your Mac is lost or stolen, Find My can help you get it back. FileVault makes sure your files are encrypted so others cannot access them. And free security updates help keep your Mac protected. Disclaimers: Configurable options are available. (1) Apple Intelligence is available in beta on all Mac models with M1 and later, with Siri and device language set to US English, as a macOS Sequoia update. Sorry to say that I've been having problems since day one. Whilst Apple Support is pretty good the innumerable problems I've had make me wish I'd not upgraded my old Mac Book. If the speed is faster or other things 'better' it's gone unnoticed by me. $3K for a whole lotta hassle.

Its standout strengths are strong sustained speed, a bright high-contrast display and long battery life of up to 22 hours. Things to consider

The 512GB SSD is fine for general professional use, but users handling large video, photo or development assets may need more internal storage or external drives compared with higher-capacity configurations.

Student suitability

Best for university students in computing, design, engineering or media who need premium performance and battery life; more power than many general study users require.

Creative professional suitability

9/10 - Excellent for photo, design and many video workflows thanks to strong processing power, bright XDR display and pro-grade media support, though storage may fill quickly on large projects.

Portability rating

8/10 - Powerful yet still easy to carry daily, with a practical 14-inch form factor that balances mobility and screen space.

Battery endurance rating

9/10 - Up to 22 hours of battery life makes it well suited to long workdays, travel and study sessions away from power.

Windows compatibility score

5/10 - Best experience is within macOS and Apple-focused workflows; browser-based and common cross-platform apps work well, but some Windows-only tools may require alternatives.

Key benefits

  • M4 Pro chip: Delivers high performance for demanding workloads such as compiling large codebases, advanced multitasking and creative applications.
  • Up to 22 hours battery life: Supports long workdays away from a power point with less frequent charging.
  • 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display: Produces sharp detail, deep contrast and high brightness up to 1,600 nits peak for excellent viewing in bright environments and HDR content.
  • Portable 14-inch design: Gives you workstation-class capability in a size that is easier to carry between home, office and campus.
  • Three Thunderbolt 5 ports: Expands connectivity for high-speed accessories, docks and professional workflows without relying solely on adapters.
  • 12MP Center Stage camera: Helps keep you well framed for clearer, more polished video calls.
  • Six-speaker audio system with Spatial Audio: Delivers fuller sound for media, meetings and content review without immediately needing external speakers.
  • Apple ecosystem features: Works smoothly with iPhone and other Apple devices for easier file transfer, messaging and cross-device workflows.

Q: How many external monitors can this 14-inch MacBook Pro run?

A: Apple MacBook Pro MX2H3X/A supports two external displays because this configuration uses the M4 Pro chip. It does not carry the four-display support listed for selected M4 Max versions, so desk setups need to be planned around that limit.

Q: Will I still need adapters for USB-A or Ethernet accessories?

A: Yes. This model has three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack, but it does not include built-in USB-A or Ethernet. Older drives, wired networks and some office peripherals will need an adapter or dock.

Q: Can this MacBook Pro run Windows-only software natively?

A: No. Apple MacBook Pro MX2H3X/A runs macOS, not Windows as a native operating system option. Many major apps have Mac versions, but software that is genuinely Windows-only may need virtualisation, remote access, or a different machine.

Q: Does charging use up one of the Thunderbolt ports?

A: No. Apple MacBook Pro MX2H3X/A charges through its dedicated MagSafe 3 port, so charging does not take over a Thunderbolt 5 connection. That matters if you regularly connect storage, displays or other accessories while plugged in.

Q: When will Apple Intelligence work in Australian English on this Mac?

A: Apple Intelligence is available in beta on Mac models with M1 and later using macOS Sequoia, with Siri and device language set to US English. English (Australia) support is available from December 2024, with some features arriving over time.

Q: Does the display support ProMotion for smoother scrolling and editing?

A: Yes. The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display supports ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. It can look smoother for scrolling, timeline work and motion content, though some apps and fixed-rate material will not always use the full rate.
