Improved battery
Really happy with the AirPods 4. I upgraded from my AirPods 2 and the difference is noticeable. The battery life feels much better in everyday use, and the new design seems to fit my ears really nicely and feels more secure and comfortable. The sound is also great, and I really like the smaller USB-C charging case. Overall, they feel like a worthwhile upgrade from the AirPods 2 and I’m very happy with them so far. Would definitely recommend them

At a glance
Apple AirPods 4 are premium true wireless earbuds for iPhone and Apple users who want easy everyday listening, clear calls and a more immersive audio experience. They suit commuting, office use and long streaming sessions thanks to their light fit and 30-hour case battery. Key strengths are comfort, Siri controls and spatial audio. One limitation is the 5-hour single-charge runtime, which is not class-leading.

Things to consider
The 5-hour listening time per charge is convenient for daily use, but shorter than some rivals that run longer between charges.
Commuter suitability score
9/10 - Lightweight fit, clear call performance, voice controls and a pocketable case make them highly practical for daily travel.
Workout fit
Best for light workouts, walking and gym sessions rather than high-impact training.
Noise isolation effectiveness
6/10 - Voice Isolation improves call clarity, but this model does not offer the stronger blocking effect of active noise cancelling alternatives.
All-day comfort rating
9/10 - The updated fit and pressure-equalisation venting support long listening sessions with minimal fatigue.
Multi-device switching ease
8/10 - Very easy for users already in the Apple ecosystem, with smooth day-to-day control and device use.
Key benefits
- Personalised Spatial Audio: Places sound around you for a more immersive music, movie and gaming experience.
- Voice Isolation: Helps reduce background noise so your voice comes through more clearly on calls.
- Updated Fit: Designed for more comfortable all-day wear across commutes, work and home listening.
- Charging Case Battery Life: Up to 30 hours total listening time helps you go longer between recharges.
- Single-Charge Playback: Up to 5 hours listening time is suitable for routine daily sessions without constant top-ups.
- Siri Interactions: Lets you control playback and respond to notifications hands-free.
- IP54 Dust, Sweat and Water Resistance: Better suited to daily commuting and light exercise in varied conditions.
- Adaptive EQ: Adjusts audio output to help maintain balanced sound during everyday listening.
Q: Is Apple AirPods 4 model MXP63ZA/A the version with Active Noise Cancellation?
A: No. MXP63ZA/A is the standard AirPods 4, not the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. It includes Voice Isolation for clearer calls, but it does not add ANC, Transparency mode or Adaptive Audio for stronger noise control.
Q: Are AirPods 4 a good choice if you do not like in-ear silicone tips?
A: Yes. AirPods 4 use an open-style fit rather than sealing the ear canal with silicone tips, which many buyers find more comfortable for long listening. The trade-off is less passive noise blocking than sealed in-ear earbuds.
Q: How long do AirPods 4 last between charges in real use?
A: Apple rates them for up to 5 hours of listening time on a single charge under its test conditions, with volume at 50 per cent and Spatial Audio off. Using the case, total listening time is up to 30 hours under the same conditions.
Q: Do AirPods 4 work with Android phones as well as Apple devices?
A: Yes, as Bluetooth earbuds they can pair with Android phones for audio playback and calls. Some Apple-specific features, such as Siri interactions and tighter ecosystem setup, are designed to work best with Apple devices.
Q: Are AirPods 4 suitable for running or light outdoor use?
A: Yes. AirPods 4 are rated IP54 for dust, sweat and water resistance, so they suit workouts, commuting and light outdoor use. That rating helps with sweat and splashes, but it is not intended for swimming, showering or full submersion.
Q: What does Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking do on AirPods 4?
A: It places sound around the listener rather than only left and right, which can make music, movies, TV and games feel more immersive. Dynamic head tracking adjusts the sound field as the head moves, for a more cinema-like effect.
