At a glance
The Acer Nitro VG240Y is a 24-inch Full HD gaming monitor aimed at casual to enthusiast gamers, students and home office users who want smooth motion and clear IPS visuals without overspending. Its main strengths are the 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time and slim-bezel design. The main limitation is that its Full HD resolution and basic brightness are less premium than higher-end QHD or HDR-focused monitors.

Things to consider
It is best suited to buyers who prioritise smooth motion and value over premium image upgrades, as higher-end alternatives may offer sharper QHD resolution, stronger HDR performance or higher brightness.
Gaming suitability score
8.5/10 - Strong for fast gaming thanks to its 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time and FreeSync support, though image upgrades are more modest than premium models.
Home office fit
Well suited to home office and study setups thanks to its desk-friendly 23.8-inch size, clear IPS screen and simple connectivity.
Colour accuracy rating
7/10 - IPS technology helps with consistent colour presentation, but this model is positioned more for gaming value than colour-critical creative work.
Multi-monitor setup compatibility
Good - Zero Frame bezels and compact sizing make it practical for dual-monitor desk setups.
Eye comfort score
7/10 - Smooth 144Hz playback can feel easier on the eyes during motion-heavy use, though no advanced eye-care features are specified here.
Key benefits
- 144Hz Refresh Rate: Delivers noticeably smoother motion for fast-paced games and more fluid on-screen movement.
- 1ms Response Time: Helps reduce visible blur and ghosting during quick transitions in gameplay.
- IPS Panel: Provides clear image quality with more consistent colour and viewing angles for gaming, streaming and work.
- AMD FreeSync Compatibility: Helps minimise screen tearing for smoother gameplay with supported hardware.
- Zero Frame Design: Slim bezels make the screen feel more immersive and better suited to side-by-side monitor setups.
- 23.8-Inch Screen Size: Fits comfortably on smaller desks while still giving enough screen space for daily use.
- HDMI and DisplayPort Inputs: Makes it easy to connect to a gaming PC, laptop or compatible console.
- 3 Year Manufacturer's Warranty: Adds longer-term peace of mind for everyday use.
Q: Can I connect a PS5 or Xbox Series X to it?
A: Yes. This monitor has an HDMI 1.4 input, so it can connect directly to a PS5 or Xbox Series X. High-refresh gameplay depends on the console's output settings and whether the game supports higher frame rates at Full HD.
Q: Will HDMI let this monitor run at 144Hz?
A: It can, but the refresh rate available over HDMI depends on the source device and its video settings. This monitor also has DisplayPort 1.2, which is the clearer choice when a gaming PC is being set up for high refresh use.
Q: Is 250 nits bright enough for a bright room?
A: It is fine for most bedrooms, study spaces and general indoor use, but it is not aimed at very bright rooms with strong sun on the screen. For the best result, place it away from direct window glare rather than expecting TV-like brightness.
Q: Does the Acer Nitro VG240Y include a DisplayPort cable?
A: No. The box includes a power cord and an HDMI cable, not a DisplayPort cable. If your PC is set up to use DisplayPort 1.2 for its video output, that cable needs to be added separately.
Q: Can this monitor be wall mounted or used on an arm?
A: Mounting support is not listed for this model, so wall mounting or monitor arm compatibility should not be assumed. If that matters for your setup, choose based on a confirmed mount pattern rather than the stand alone.
Q: Does it have built-in speakers for PC or console audio?
A: Built-in speakers are not listed for this model, so audio playback should not be assumed from the monitor itself. Plan on using headphones, external speakers, or the audio options available on the connected PC or console.
