Not sure where to begin? Here's a quick breakdown on the world of Televisions.

There's no doubt that today's TVs are capable of displaying the most lifelike images for a great entertainment experience from home. Read on to find out which one might be right for you.

With OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) TV technology, every pixel is a tiny super-thin LED that produces its own light, switching on and off as needed without relying on a backlight. QLED (Quantum Light-Emitting Diode) technology uses tiny quantum dots to magnify brightness and colour using a backlight made up of LEDs. QLEDs are very similar to regular LED TVs but the picture quality is generally enhanced.

Let's break it down further per type. OLEDs are better at contrast as they can fully blacken, along with better Gaming performance including better average response times and refresh rates and viewing angles on either side of the screen. Meanwhile, QLEDs are better for overall brightness thanks to the two sets of lighting inside, and they're overall cheaper than OLED TVs as the tech is less expensive to produce. Both are excellent at delivering immersive colour, but if we had to pick one, OLED does edge it out due to better colour at higher brightness levels.

Smart TVs come in a range of sizes, from around 32” to a much larger 100” or even more! When you measure a TV, it’s essential to know it’s measured from the bottom left hand corner up to the top right hand corner diagonally. When it comes to your a room's set up, there are recommended viewing lengths (that is how far you should be from the TV while watching) for each size. A 55” TV has a recommended viewing distance of 1.7m, 65” TV at 2m, 75” TV at 2.3m and 85” TV at 2.6m. These not only help in reducing the strain on eyes, but also generally provide the best picture quality and experience.

If you have decided to go with a big screen TV, check the resolution of the picture quality as well. The bigger the TV screen, the higher the resolution you should choose to avoid pixelation, with 4K UHD fast becoming the standard in 2023. Smaller 32" and Below TVs are perfect for caravans, outside entertainment and waiting rooms for example. These days most people opt for larger TVs and prefer them for the overall viewing experience. Just remember before you excitedly buy a brand new big screen TV that you measure your living space to make sure it fits, or have planned for a new TV Unit or Mount for the wall. Feel free to ask us in store or online if you'd like us to setup and Install for you!

Many 4K Smart TVs say they’re either LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) or LED (Light Emitting Diodes). The main difference between the two is that LCD uses fluorescent lights, whereas LED uses light emitting diodes.

Inside LCD TV screens the liquid crystals control the light that passes through them, creating different levels of colour and brightness to become the picture on the screen. It’s interesting to note that most LED TVs have an LCD display, as the liquid crystals don’t produce light they need a backlight, supplied via LEDs. So technically, an LED TV is an LCD TV.

The exceptions are with QLED TVs and OLED TVs in that QLED uses an LED backlight with quantum dots and OLED’s don’t have any backlights. The easiest way to remember the difference is that if a TV says it’s LCD, it has a backlight that isn’t an LED backlight but an older style fluorescent backlight. If you’re looking for the latest technology when buying a TV, it’s recommended to aim for a 4K or even 8K UHD LED TV.

The winners in the TV popularity stakes continue to be Samsung, LG, Sony and Hisense purely for their stand out technology and strong value. Other reputable brands in the Aussie TV market include Loewe, Linsar, Toshiba and TCL.

Each TV brand has a unique set of selling points, for example LG is known for their OLED screens and Samsung dominates the market for 8K TVs along with a high standard in QLED panels. Hisense offers a similar range with a great mix of the two at competitive prices.

If you’re looking for the most popular brand worldwide, then Samsung TVs are the answer, known for their cutting-edge technology across TVs with ultra-ultra-high resolution that people absolutely love. As always, we'd recommend visiting us In Store to check out our display TVs for yourself and get some advice from our friendly staff on the best fit for your lounge room.
