Looking After Your Washing Machine & Dryer
Wondering how to clean your washing machine or dryer? Fisher & Paykel can help! Here are some of their handy tips to cleaning and caring for your laundry appliances. When you are ready to clean, it is recommended that you turn off the taps to prevent the chance of flooding should a hose burst and turn off the power at the wall.
If you tend to wash using cold water and with fabric softener, complete a wash cycle at 40C or above at regular intervals (eg. Every 5th wash). This helps to prevent the fabric softener creating a waxy build-up.
You can clean the the surfaces of your washer or dryer with a soft damp cloth only and wipe dry. Do not use scouring or spray cleaners as they can damage the paint and plastic surfaces.
For your washer, you can clean the fabric softener dispenser by rinsing it with warm, soapy water.
To clean the door, use a soft damp cloth to remove any water marks or other residue. Don’t forget to remove any items or lint accumulating in the bottom of the seal catchment, and wipe out any water that might’ve accumulated there. Unpleasant odours can develop if this isn’t cleaned.”
When it comes to your dryer, it is vital that you clean the lint filter. Lint is usually formed during wearing and washing. Fibres released from the clothes during the drying cycle are collected in the lint filter.
Be sure to clean the lint filter after every load, as the lint produced in the drying process can become a fire hazard if it is left to accumulate in or around your dryer.
The lint filter is normally positioned in the door opening (at the bottom). There is usually a warning light that will flash at the beginning of every cycle to remind you to clean the filter. Lint becomes a fire hazard if left to build up, and will reduce the efficiency of your dryer.
